That is good to hear Grace. As my current fridge is 31 years old and appears will never quit on its own, with the upcoming kitchen reno I've splurged on appliances almost as much as the cabinetry. I was originally planning for JA SS but the appliance store guys talk about the cleaning, dinging & scratch issues of SS in general and their wildly enthusiastic endorsement of the BFG for easy care & spectacular looks swung my vote. The only reservation I've had is that my cabinets will be dark brown stain and have pondered that they wouldn't look all that great together. Finished kitchen photos with dark cabinets certainly have more 'pop' with the SS. On the other hand the FG reflects back what is around it so the light floor & counter tops will hopefully add some of the lightness back in to the mix. I wonder why they are so rare in the marketplace? Have they just not caught on yet? I don't know how long JA have been marketing the FG collection. Will it take being used extensively in the kitchen magazines & TV shows for them to become mainstream? Or, as my mind wanders the labyrinth of appliance choices, may they like the Edsel car disappear from the appliance landscape for being so different.

Thank you all for your replies! Some more clarification about what I am looking for: I decided (last night) that I would prefer a single-door to a French-door. The refrigerator will be at the end of a wall, next to counters. There won't be an island but a big dining table in the middle of the room. There is no problem space-wise with a single door, and I thought it might be better because then when I open the refrigerator door (left-hinge) there will be a clear path to the counter which is just to the right of it. With a French door, the right side door will be in the way a bit of moving things back and forth between the counter and the frig. Also, I don't think I want an ice maker on the outside because I heard they take space away from the inside of the frig. joboxes: Thanks for your thoughts on this. I didn't realize Electrolux was so new with refrigerators. I appreciate your suggestions. nalcar: Great to hear you like the Viking so much. I considered it but was worried about having everything be too "Viking," plus I read mixed things about the quality of the frig. It's French door, too, but I may reconsider it based on your experience. wallycat: I have seen some JennAir, and do like them. I think I read mixed things about the quality, though. It's funny, a2gemini. I originally was going to buy an Electrolux fridge until I started reading reviews - I remember a miz lizzy in particular. This was a while ago but you get this vision in your head that has water leaking on the soon to be installed hardwood, or a fridge full of food going bad a week after the warranty runs out and you say no way. Then you start to pick other contenders and low and behold they get nasty reviews too. Lol, I think I picked the Bosch partly because I can't find ANY reviews! I do know this. Anything will be better (storage wise, and big/bulky wise than what I have now- which btw is a rebadged electrolux/Frigidaire SxS. One of the things I hate about this one (other than what's mentioned above) are the wire racks in the freezer that keep falling off the rails. And guess what? The bosch has wire baskets too. I haven't seen an elux in a long time but I do remember the drawers in the fridge section were very smooth and easy to pull out. What's the freezer like? I did like the fridge portion of the bosch as well. Oh, and thanks for your post hvtech. It reminded me to call the store and ask who services the appliances and about extended warranties.

I have had a fridge in my unheated garage for about 6 years. I really needed the extra fridge space like others have mentioned. I live in western Washington where it gets fairly cold in winter and fairly hot in summer, but neither for extremely long periods of time. Here's what happens with mine. The temperature sensor is in the fridge apparently. In the winter, the garage can get cold enough that the fridge part of the unit doesn't need to run to maintain the correct temp. Therefore, the unit doesn't turn on the cold air. The freezer, however, needs the cold air to keep completely frozen. Sometimes certain things in the freezer get a little thawed out and then refreeze. I get some freezer burn occassionally. But the fridge part of the unit is completely fine. I don't have any issues with it during the summer, but I'm sure that thing must run hard to keep everything cool. This is a small trade-off for me as I absolutely need the extra fridge space. Oh, and as to the counter-depth issue. Have you checked the actual cubic foot size difference in the fridge spaces? Some counter-depths have almost as much as some of the standard depths.
