How well does sealing really work?

I have a bathroom that has a white acrylic tub and the alcove is white subway tiles (Daltile) with white grout up part the shower head. The bathroom has never been used and the grout is unsealed. Now to the odd part...I am starting to see a few gray hairs and anticipate needing to undertake dyeing in a few years (too Yankee frugal to get it done at salon). If I seal the grout will that adequately protect it from being stained by chestnut brown hair dye? Which sealer should I use?

My other bathroom is marble, I definitely don't want to attempt it in there.

Nope! Sorry, Sue-- even sealers have their limitations! :-)

Darn! I guess I could use blue tape to put plastic on the walls. What does everyone else do? I can do my own hair for $10, seems silly to pay $125.

Red plastic mulch is usually used in field production of produce. It is said to stimulate the growth of tomatoes. I think you place this over a watering system and it reduces the transpirancy of water to air. I have never heard it used in any other setting. Black plastic mulch is used around other plants. GGG

Yes, they are divisions of divisions of divisions (and so on) of the original plant. That is the ONLY way to get more of any particular daylily. Daylily seeds each make something new, not copies of the mother plant. Tissue culture as I undestand it is only done by the sources for the big box stores. They also sell unnamed seedlings on the Lily Auction but they are in a separate Catagory. Thanks for the compliment on the raised beds. I really didn't have much choice but it do it that way since I wanted useable garden space in those areas that used to be too much downhill slope. The upstairs backyard planter plateau was not created by putting those blocks on level ground and then filling in with soil but rather it was created by cutting into a downward slope until the back part butting against the cinder blocks reached level ground and then filling in the front to make it all one big even garden bed.

I have very hard water and use Glass Magic. Just dump a bunch in the bottom of the dishwasher. Makes all the difference in the world for the white stuff on glasses. Try it.

I should think it is almost a certainty that they will return, Rouge. Update: You were correct Campanula. What a gorgeous (garish?) splash of red in April. (karin_mt, I know I planted white ones but I have seen nothing that leads me to believe they are white :( ).

LOL! Yeah, no backsplash still! But I may have found something, assuming I keep this granite. Other projects have taken priority, plus the oil bill. We need to get some landscaping done before our neighbors drum us out of town for having the worst looking yard (there's been "talk").

I don't have a sprayer a the kitchen sink, so that wouldn't work.

Love this post! But, I'd like to highly encourage you to forego coloring your own hair. IMHO, the $125 is well worth it to get beautiful hair color & cut. It really depends on how often you have to get it done. I only color mine around 4 times a year. You may even be able to find a stylist who will do it for less. All the advertising makes it look so terrific, but you can usually tell the difference with people who color their own.

Yeah, I've sealed the grout lines for my outdoor bbq a million times, but they still suck up oil splashes. Fortunately the sun and rain appear to be pretty efficient cleaners....

Have to chime in with agreement on the hair color. I did my own for years until someone gently suggested I consider letting a professional have at it and the difference is profound and worth it.
