Wolf Integrated Modules...anyone them touching

I want to put the 15" induction and gas modules next to each other with the 29 1/4 wide cutout that wolf recommends. Wolf has a filler strip that goes between the modules but I think (but not sure)that it serves only a cosmetic purpose.

Does anyone have experience using these units? What seals the gap (space) between the units. If water...or broth overflows a pan and gets on the filler strip, what keeps it from getting getting between the modules and getting under the counter and into the cabinet.

We're using granite. Has anyone tried to leave a thin strip between the units (not what wolf is suggesting).

I've heard varied opinions from the sales people. In the posts I've seen here, people seem to separate the units quite widely on their countertops.
