I think the problem with the added drawer ones, perhaps especially with a (smaller) counter-depth model, is that the extra drawer takes up interior space. Of course, this relates to how many people are storing and eating food from the fridge, and stuff.

FWIW, I like my Smasung (RFG238AARS), but then it has that ice/water thing you don't want; other models don't.

LG had problems with the door seals and leaving interior lights on (burning stuff) a year or so ago; maybe they've fixed those issues by now -- seems simple enough. KitchenAid is well-liked by others here. I think Whirlpool makes those and has its own (similar) models, as well. Make sure you have local service for any appliance available where you live, before you pick something.

Maybe if ya get one you like, it'll last longer...

We have had our GE Profile FD two-freezer-drawer "armoire" counter-depth for 2 years now. We do like having the 2 freezer drawers, good for keeping on hand some selected items that we want handy and not in our large chest freezer. The bottom freezer drawer has an ice tray, and it has functioned well. We have had no regrets.

Our model does have a water dispenser on the outside but it does not take up interior usable fridge space which was one of the selling features for us. As I recall, there is a model without the water dispenser.

Too bad your fridge has died after only six years!! - Hope your next one will last much, much longer, as it should.

I recently purchased a GE Cafe French Door, counter depth frig. I have only had it for a couple of months, but far so good. It has an ice maker in the freezer. It has a water dispenser, but it inside the frig. I really like this design as it gives good filtered water and does not take up door space. The other thing I like is the fact that the sides are all SS, as opposed to gray or black painted. The SS looks great.

I have found it a bit noisy, nothing big but you can hear the compressor.
