Father's Day-US Open Golf Table

I wanted something more manly for DH for Father's Day and since he is an avid golfer, I decided to go with the golf theme. Add to that the fact that he was glued to the tv to watch the US Open all afternoon.

I just realized that these pictures aren't the final ones of the table. I took these and then realized that I needed to add some golf tees and balls scattered around.

But, you get the idea.

Close-ups of centerpiece decor (found in a thrift store)

DHs very manly steak dinner:

Ribeye steak, mushrooms, loaded baked potato, fresh tomatoes, fresh squash, and a couple of his freshly picked jalapeno peppers. Add to that ice tea and he was all set to enjoy his meal.

Off of an orange plastic tray in front of the tv!

The photos look a little washed out in color on the tablecloth. It is a light tan. The centerpieces are on top of a black and tan placemat that hopefully added a manly look. The two golf items used for the centerpiece featured a lot of dark green and tan. So, I used my newly found green flatware from GW. I couldn't believe that the entire set was there (16 pieces) and they were just dropped in the containers to be sold piece by piece for 25 cents each.

The napkins match the black and tan checked placemat, but were bought at a different time and thrifting excursion. The green candle holders were from Dollar General after Christmas clearance and the glassware was another GW find.

I got a set of 4 each of the tall glass (too small for tea in my opinion), the small sherbet or dessert glasses, and another cocktail looking glass.

The plates, are black hexagon shaped ones from another find. The table cloth is one that I have had for along time.

The squash came from a friend's garden and the steaks were on sale this week at Kroger.

Boy, the flatware was a quite find. I just bought some colored ones recently and they weren't cheap!

You found everything at bargain prices - even your food! Very cool.

That's a real "guy tablescape."

I can relate to the food on a tray thing. We have a lot of meals sitting at the bar. I thought the NBA finals would never end.

Wow..PD I hope DH appreciated all your effort.
You did such a cute job on thinking up all those details for him....Not to mention a fabulous dinner to enjoy the tournament!!

How do you tell if the drywall has been painted? If you can see the color difference of the drywall mud where the nails and joint taping is, then it hasn't been painted yet. If it's a uniform color, it at least has a coat of paint on it. IMO, I would use a latex paint, they clean up with soap and water; the clean-up hassles of oil-base paints isn't fun for DIY'ers. You can use an interior or exterior paint, exterior will last longer, but do use a flat paint (gloss or semi-gloss will show every defect). I would probably paint with the garage door open, a lot of moisture is released from latex paints, and there is an odor buildup to some extent. Lower cost paints may require 2 coats, if the drywall hasn't been painted yet, you may require 2 coats with a premium paint which could be done with a primer and finish coat or 2 coats of a finish paint. Coverage is typically 300-400 square feet of wall or ceiling per gallon, but read the label to be sure! If you have oily or greasy marks on the wall, DO get an oil-base stain killer to spot coat these areas first. Auto parts stores have some spot removers for garage floors, you might check Autozone or someplace else.

IMO, its still the HUBBY who makes the final choice. Anyone, anyone even his own sister can tell him off and convince him not to pick up his kids. but in the end its his choice. No one elses. So it doesn't matter what a SM or a BM wants. Its the decision of that person. And let me bring another perspective to this arguement. You all are ticked off when a weekend is missed from an already constricted schedual eh..???? WELL WHAT HAPPENS WHEN BM MAKES PLANS ON DADS' WEEKENDS OR CONVINCES THE KIDS ITS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO GO??? Then WHAT? SHE MAKES DAD LOOK LIKE A PUTZ FOR THE LOST WEEKENDS. Its happening now with us. Damned if you do take them, and damned if youdont. Well guess what, i'm keeping a log for the last 2 years now of all the weekends lost with his kids and the reasons behind it. When on misses and why. Whether its a school activities, grandma's bday, cousins bdya party, just not up to it, wants to be with mom that weekend...ALL OF IT!. This way, when bm accuses my dh of it , i will have a record with dates and who showed up and who didn't so she doesn't try any funny business. and even the kdis have lashed out at my husband saying, oh your msising alot of weekends. He said yah, and who';s fault is that? YOURS NOT MINE! you want ot be with your friends, and go party and i call you ever week to know if you are coming...so dont play the tag game on me and try to guilt me. YOU ARE DITCHING ME. Be responsible , accept it and stop blaming others for you actions! And this is what i would say about this situation. STOP BLAMING SM'S FOR DADS DECISIONS. She has an imput but not the ultimate say. I think the mentality of blaming sm all the time comes for the same mentality that kids have the final say in these divorce situation and i cannot stress the fact even more that kids have absolutely no say and power lies between the adults. Between mom and dad. And in the end , a SM can b****ch all she wants, if dad says otherwise, its otherwise. And to add, if dad wants to skip one weekend, its also his right. He can make arrangments to picck them up another time for longer.

Thanks for all the ideas. I have given him a few photo books, which he always enjoys. And we are taking him to the area where he grew up (across the country) this summer, to visit his siblings. That was his birthday gift! I think I'll stick with the "experience" idea. He's not really into art museums or shows, but he likes beer (!) so DH and I are taking him on a brewery tour, including lunch, on Fathers Day. Later, for dinner, we are all (including my kids) going out to a nice restaurant.

That's great! I am sure hubby enjoyed your efforts. I love the centerpiece, so cute..
We drove by the Bethpage course where the Open is last week. The weather has been awful..so much rain!

PD, this table is one even my husband would appreciate--golf related! What a cute find for your centerpiece, and I love the way you used the black/white with the green accents. I was just thinking "now isn't that great that she even had green candle holders to match"--good that you snagged those at the sales! The last picture would be my DH too--he much prefers to eat in front of the tv! LOL

Thanks for the ideas for the golf table - I might have to steal some of your ideas. I am still in the collecting stage for mine :). I found a little golf candlestand yesterday - nothing like your centerpiece though. Yours looks very cool and the color combo works well for a 'guyish' tablescape.

Printer, great golf table! Love your accessories and how you tied it all together. Your DH is a lucky man...even after setting a table for him, you let him have a super-delicious meal in front of the TV! How considerate of you! (Really, we know you were just "Playing Dishes" (love your blog title) and didn't care if anyone ate at the table or not!) LOL! Thanks for sharing it with us!

DD, I had to laugh at your comment. Jim really hates small plates and is always joking about them. He told someone the other day that I let him eat off the fun dishes only on special occasions! So, mister smarty is going to see a lot of my smaller plates for awhile!

My obsessed golfer (6 days a week now he's retired) might actually notice a tablesetting like this! Tho he'd be eating on a TV table in front of his big TV watching the Open too. LOL.
I wanted to save the photo to our Holidays tablesetting album but need a larger picture of the first shot to show the whole thing. Can you enlarge and email it to me?
