A Few Pics of Thrift Shop 'Finds' for Future T'scaping!

I mentioned yesterday that I got to spend the day w/friends TS'ing & found a few goodies that a few yrs ago I wouldn't be looking for ('Enablers R Us' Syndrome!)

A couple ceramic chicks ($3 pr)...vintage looking ... 2 pale yellow/gold napkins, very textured ($2) & 4 bamboo napkin rings ($2.50), & 4 metal 'dragonfly' napkin rings ($2)! The little bulldog planter ($2.50) is for my DD who loves bulldogs!

Of course, those dragonfly napkin rings called to me because ...remember, I just got these glasses at a church GS not long ago...LOL!

Sorry, no t'scaping lately...need to change out the buffet & Dollbaby, too...lots of 'outdoor' time now...lovin' it!

Some of you are sharing WONDERFUL 'bunny' finds...so here's my porch bunny w/a new "Jade" plant ($6) from a plant sale...& the woody/resin pear is from HLobby clearance $2 a rainy day find.

Those chicks are wonderful, Jeanne! They look like the Lefton ones. And the dragonfly napkin rings are really a neat find, plus those pretty textured napkins! What a cute Bulldog planter, bet your DD loves him. You had a good shopping trip with friends, sounds like a perfect day.

I know you're really happy to be able to get out in the yard again. My yard time is about done for I'm afraid, till around Halloween. So I'll envy you and the others who get to play outdoors the next few months.

Great finds! I love the chicks and what serendipity to find those dragonfly napkin rings--I can just imagine them with the glasses you show. And the little brown rabbit is sweet.

Now that our garage sales are starting in earnest, I'm hoping to find some good buys too!

Candy...Our brunch was just DH & I ...& sorry to say, but not REALLY sorry to say...we didn't use the table cause it was a sunshiny Easter afternoon & we got to go outside & play in the dirt! So the table is still set! I would love to have Kathleen's menu at my table...if she could send the food over the Internet! LOL! Thanks marylee, punk & nana ...you gals make my day, too, by looking & commenting! punk...I've been looking for a couple small plates in a color to match the Bailey cups...so I think these do work! luvs, thank you...I am so glad to be over the crude! (more than 6 weeks worth!)...that doesn't usually happen & I had a flu shot early, too...yes, those linens are really pretty...maybe some of that work on those are called "tatting" besides the embroidery...they were a bargain & I've had them a few yrs now. Thank you, jane, marlene, bonnie & frou...the last 4 plates w/cups I got on e-bay for the same $5 place setting I pd for my 1st one in MN...so I was a happy camper! And just the wk before that I won a bid for 4 plates w/2 cups for $8 but $10 shpg...so that was close to the price...I was happy again! They do come in a "gray" color, too...so I may luck upon a couple more sometime...like you said, frou...the "hunt" (is fun!) Jeanne S.

Jeanne, your table is just lovely! The centerpiece is perfect, simple but so eye-catching. And you know that I love the addition of all the white bunnies (and tea pot). I am a firm believer that bunnies go with any and all holidays. LOL. Probably cause my house is overrun with the non-real kind. And none of those in the yard causing mischief, thanks to my life as a city dweller. Sorry I'm late to all the Memorial celebrations. And I never did get out my decor either. I'm going to give myself one more chance...4th of July...and if it stays packed again this year (be two in a row), then it will have to go. New rule I'm trying to enforce, stuff can NOT stay packed several years without seeing the light of day. I need to let someone else enjoy it if I can't. Anyway, I definitely enjoyed seeing your pretty things and am so glad you decorated for "us" here. ;o) hugs, Karen

Gracias, ajsmama :). Now it all makes sense. At least till I forget what I just learned; occupational middle-age hazard these days! Re. the ebay/thrift store relationship--do you think that the now ubiquitous online markets (EBay, Craigslist etc) have hurt, harmed or not affected bricks n mortar thrifting? Years ago (I was working PT, had more time to do fun stuff like this) my MIL and I enjoyed going to local bazaars,yard sales and church rummage sales. There were fairly often some nice things dumped in there. Now I suspect many more people are doing what flyleft encountered, shopping in order to then resell. I think there is a whole new 'entrepreneur' niche, at least I've read about people who make their living or at least some income from selling online. Dunno, just wondering what folks who are more in the know think about this? Ann

OMG, OMG, OMG, Joanna---that is the IDENTICAL table! Is it listed as a Milo Baughman?? I can't believe this--I'm only on my first cup of coffee and I'm already having heart palpatitations! I am so glad I decided to post on this site and that you happened to be reading! I don't think I ever would have known what I got, because I have limited knowledge of modern furniture. Reading everyone's delight at my serendipity is almost as much fun as finding this was! Here's the story: I got it at a nearby Salvation Army. I've been on vacation since Christmas so I've been indulging my thrift shop addiction (and it truly is!). Over the years I have found some incredibly fabulous things there but stopped going because about a year or two ago a new manager was hired who appeared to be robbing the place blind (this is not unusual at these thrift shops--sometimes corrupt employees sell all the good stuff out the back door). He and another antiques dealer who got herself a part time there no longer seem to be employed, and the good stuff is coming back out on the floor. I think successfully shopping charitable thrift shops involves persistence and tenacity. My house is truly full of treasures I've found over the years, yet any friends or family that I've directed to these stores scratch their heads and say they can never find anything. Maybe the stuff just finds me, because like a stray dog, it knows who will love it! Regarding the frames on the print, I think I do agree that I should leave them as is. I do agree with Flyleft and dillydally that they are part of the art--it's even more clear IRL. But if I were to paint them, I do like Les's suggestion of a wood tone from the burl. I think I'll leave them for now--they have a real mid-century bohemian feel that helps balance some of the elements I have in this room. Amy, I can't help but think of your gorgeous decor when I look at these red prints, so I am even more inspired to keep the original frame color. And yes, we should talk--I've been meaning to check out a couple of the places I think you're referring to. I also recently found a cool little consignment shop in your town that I was thinking of consigning some stuff to. Oh, what a way to start the New Year! Thanks everyone for boosting my excitement! I wish you all similar luck in 2009!

Jeanne, I love the dragonfly napkin rings and they will be beautiful with your new glasses. Darling chicks, little bull dog planter and other napkin rings. Already look good with the napkins/pm they are sitting on. The chicks make me think of a day on the farm. So cute.

Lovely picture with your bunny, pear and jade plant. The wooden pear looks great with the wicker and bunny. Is that a cabbage pm the bunny is sitting on? I like it!

Those vintage Chicks are my FAVORITE...An amazing price too. I agree with Karen, I think they're Lefton.
Both sets of napkin rings are beautiful...Love the Dragonflys.

I'm just getting out to do gardening >>> YIKES there's tons of work after so much snow and rain...but it's good to get out and see that 'Strange Object' in the sky...I think it's called 'The Sun' !! lol

You find the cutest things, love those chicks--don't you have some other's too? How wonderful you found the dragonfly napkin rings, they will be perfect when you use your glasses. Your $6 jade plant made me wish I could share my clippings with you. This house came with some pretty good sized ones outside, I clip and throw away trimmings lots bigger than your cute plant! (I've poked them in the ground everywhere I could but they grow and spread so much that I can't possibly keep all the clippings. I remember when my stepmom used to "baby" her's inside all winter to keep them living so feel guilty throwing them away!) Glad you had a fun day shopping with your friends. Luvs

Awwww, those little chickies are darling and the napkin rings will be great with your glasses. I have the litter mates to the little bulldog in blue and yellow. Be careful they multiply. I like those bamboo looking rings too. I've hit few GSs lately, just haven't had time to post.

Thanks, Holiday-ers, for your comments & also for identifying the baby chicks as Lefton, Purplemoon & Jane! One chick had a tip broken off his toes & I just touched it up w/paint...but that's why the TS person told me that I get the pair for $3! :-O Big smile on my face when she said that!

luvs...I've never heard about Jade plants & growing them outside before ... that was fun to hear you talk about them...amazing!

frou...no wonder I liked that bulldog...you have great taste!

magpie, slinkey, punk & nana...'dragonflies' remind me of summer & our little pond...so I hope I get a summer t'scape done to share sometime in June! DH & I are on overload right now trying to catch up (uncooperative weather) plus we do Farmer's Mrkt one morning each week...but we enjoy all of it! Jeanne S.

WOW, Luvs, that jade plant is fantastic! Wish I could come get some of your cuttings to try and grow one in a pot like Jeanne. You probably gave a lot of us here "jade envy". ;o)

Karen, told my friend my hair was messy and no makeup left on--but my only chance to show Jeanne how big my plant is! LOL (Where did all that gray hair come from???? Oh yeah, I've earned them!) LOL

Jeanne, such a neat picture of you and your DH. Looks like the weather was really nice that day too. ;o)
