I finally found an Elite 790 in gas hunting through the spare parts sites. If I got the right model, it would be a Frigidaire with about a $35 oven ignitor. No way to tell for sure unless you post the full model number of the range. I am virtually certain that the ignitor is what is wrong with your range. When they fail, the symptoms are long times to light, failure to relight in time with consequent big mood swings in temp, and sometimes a good bang or the addition of heat from the broiler is enough to trip the thermocouple and get things rolling. If you do replace the ignitor yourself, be sure to unplug the range from the wall before you go messing with the bare ends of any wires. Alternately, replacing an ignitor is a pretty simple chore for a tech, so you might want to call around and get some quotes just to have it done by a pro. It is a quick fix and they may cut you a good deal just to come out and fix it.

Cooking on induction absolutely rocks. Immediate response, consistant temps--it's wonderful. I hate to clean, but cleaning up an induction cooktop rocks just as much as cooking on one. Nothing ever burns onto the cooktop, ever. Make a huge mess. Swipe with a soapy rag, swipe again with a clean, dry rag, shiney and clean. Done. Haul hubby out to a different demo. If you can find a Miele or Wolf showroom, go to one of those. Then he can be impressed with the performance but shocked at the price point, and you can "settle" for something much less expensive that works well but with fewer bells and whistles, and he'll be impressed with your research and happy to come in on budget. And you can be a happy cook with a spotless range and very little effort. ;-p Cj

I've had 95103 since May 2017. I'm very happy with it. I was complaining above that it seemed slow...that was in comparison with my mom's GE induction cooktop that I got to use briefly last July. I've been cooking on mine longer, and used my mom's GE more over the holidays, and I think they both cook well. I do like that the Kenmore has knobs instead of buttons for the burners, though I'm sure I'd adjust to the buttons if I had a different range. I also like the convection oven. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten the slide-in version to avoid the small gap with the countertop, but I think the free-standing was $1000 cheaper. I think the big question is reliability and how long it lasts...still too early for me to say.

Just called today for my credit. Appliances come on Monday! I was gone all weekend, but just happened to go through the newspaper before it went into the recycle bin. Sure glad I did--got $675 back on what I thought was a good price.
