Using Stacked Plates for Birthday Cakes

I made my stacked plates with the usual aquarium glue, rose vase, candle holder, and crystal trays. I cut two cakes in half and cut holes in the centers. The cake icing glued them back together very well. The Birthday boy (Hubs) said it was the largest Birthday Cake he ever had.

Oh My Goodness! What eye candy to start my day with. You're as bad as Kathleen with her delish food pics. And I've been on a diet going on 4 wks, so you know I want a BIG slice.

What a nice way to really jazz up DH's cake. What kind of cake did you make? I really like it. I will have to try this sometime. I would love to use my pink stacking plates, but the bottoms really flair out. Guess I will have to make my own (copying you, of course!)
If someone made a cake for me as beautiful as your's I would be blown away.
Tell me more about the aquarium glue. Can you take the dishes apart afterward or are they permanently married forever?

What an awesome idea! I love using stacked plates for desserts, but have never thought about full sized cakes! You've got my wheels turning now. Thanks!

DD, I would hate to cover them up too. They'd look great in my bay window with the light hitting them. Dream, as flat as they are, could be a problem decorating. Tho I often use the beaded candle-rings on my stacked plates. So that holds other things in. Especially round ornaments. Patty, why not decorate your set for Valentine's? The pink would be perfect. Gosh, what a good buy on these in Ross. I have two of those stores not far from me that I should check out, tho probably too late now. These purple ones are way out of my budget, I was thinking I should put them on a birthday wish list, LOL. hugs, Karen

Welcome Purplemoon, how wonderful to have another enthusist here! Your stacking plates are cute! If you want it "fuller" maybe you could add a few round sparkly Xmas ornis to it, and add some larger red roses, those slightly bigger things help add height and weight to the design. Your DIL did wonderful on her plates too, it is so cool that you two could do this together! I'm sure the dish manufactors in certain areas are wondering why the rush on the cake plates, they're probably thinking everyone is doing some "cookin" LOLOLO The easter plates should be pretty easy to do for everyone, since so much is available out there compaired to V-Day.

Terri, that's good, a SWEET gift! Luvs, yes, that is the Pier One plate. She has the same fruit w blue trim dishes, so it goes nicely. Thank you ladies, I am out of practice. I used to be able to whip several of those out in the time it took to do just one. I hope she liked it, the cake came out good, everyone seemed to enjoy it I also made brownies w cream cheese and choc icing.

Kathi, You can click on the holiday forum at the top of our discussion page. I think it says "related forums". Paintingfool, I've been picking up the plates when I find them. I love anything with roses on it, but find the plates are in my price range! Keep thinking I should paint that wall--they would show up so much better than on a white wall. Diana, I think it will keep evolving as I find other items. I tried to use things I had on hand as much as I could. Bought some of those crystalized fruits, and the glitter grapes and such. I had the pinecones and greenery thank goodness--those kinds of things can sure add up quickly! Thanks for the nice compliments, I am enjoying my little creation. Luvs

That chocolate cake is two cake mixes. I mixed shredded coconut in the chocolate icing and added pecans.

The aquarium glue is less toxic than other glues. It is safe of aquariums and will not kill the fish. But it is also semi permenant and seems tough as nails. To wash it I set it down in an empty sink and spray-wash it.

You can also make smaller cakes and trim the edges with flowers.

I agree...awesome cake...You've got all my favorites mixed into one cake !! I love coconut...I love chocolate and then you addeded Pecans to top it off..sounds like a winner to me.
What clever Staking Plates. I like the idea of using aquarium glue on the glass. I've got to remember that tip.
