Oxyclean is perfect for simple soaking. One of the suggested uses is to rewhiten antique lace tablecloths. What it is is a dry powder that releases hydrogen peroxide when wet. That's all it is is a portable, inexpensive source for lots of H2O2. The extra oxygen is released into the water and "burns up" and releases the oils and/or bacteria causing stains and odors. I sweat at night and my pillow becomes stained. There is an odor but not one that drives people out of the house. Anyway, the oxygen cleaner takes that stain out. I used to collect t-shirts when I visited places. All those now have (or had) yellow stains on them. The Oxyclean took those stains out, too. For something as small as a bustier, I would put a teaspoon of dry oxygen cleaner (there are other brands besides Oxyclean) into a half a sink of the hottest water you have. Then if you think the garment will be harmed by hot water, let the water cool some, but it needs to be hot at first to release the peroxide. Then I would soak for 8 hours, but I soak everything for 8 hours (over night) just to be sure. Then wash as you would normally.

onlygirlsmom, have you dried the shirts in a dryer with the deodorant odor still in them? If so, the dryer heat may have 'baked' it in, making it very difficult to remove. If a shirt comes out of the wash still odorous, I would recommend hanging it to dry on a plastic hanger. It could be even more effective to hang it to dry outside in the fresh air, weather permitting. Then you can attack the odor when it's washed again without the odor having been 'baked' in. Heloise recommends pouring ammonia on the shirts' underarms, then letting them dry before washing. The main thing that has helped me when I've washed stinky clothes for guys has been to soak them in the washer in the hottest water appropriate for the fabric, along with the regular dosage of detergent plus a heaping cup of baking soda (added to the washer drum before adding laundry). I've ordinarily soaked them overnight by pausing the washer, then re-starting the washer to finish the wash cycle the next day. Using white vinegar for fabric softener seems to help, too.

Every time he goes in his kennel for any length of time he starts to smell a bit, and it gets worse the longer he's in there. I've kept him out of the kennel for several days in the past and he hasn't started to smell, that's why I'm sure it has something to do with the plastic of the kennel. No offense to anyone that has a hound of any sort, but the best thing I can describe it as is he starts to smell like a hound, only stronger. I've only been around two (very sweet) Bassett Hounds before, but to me they had a different sort of oily smell about them. It's not exactly the same smell, but close. I've tried putting a pad in his kennel thinking that if he wasn't in so much contact with the plastic that would lessen the smell. But he either drags it out or won't go into his kennel much to nap. I think he likes the cool of the plastic to lay on. To me, he doesn't seem to have overly oily fur. He also doesn't lick excessively that I've seen or scoot across the floor, so I don't think it's his anal glands.

I am a bit on the fence with this one........I can see a validity in both viewpoints :-) The detergent and cleaning product aisle at the grocery store does bother me and I have to circle widely around places like Yankee Candles or Bath and Body Works at the mall to avoid the smell (IMO, they reek!!). But I do not mind and usually enjoy a light scent on both males and females - a mild floral or citrus-based or spicy scent is IMO very pleasant and sure as heck beats BO, which I seem to encounter just as often. Or someone reeking of garlic, which seems to emanate out of their pores as well as their breath!! I typically wear a scent as well but it is eau de toilette, not perfume, so quite dilute and light. I am constantly getting compliments on it, so it must be appealing to a lot of people :-) I do not wear it if visiting a medical office or in a confined space (movie theaters, lectures, etc). And when visiting my hair dresser, as she does not like scents. That surprises me as she has to deal with some pretty nasty scents, like perm neutralizing solution!! And I like scent inside my house......but it has to be the right scent :-) I can't tolerate some flowers close up - oriental lilies and paperwhites for sure. But anything lemon or citrus scented is fine and lemon verbena or vervaine is my first choice for any sort of scented product. But I just have issues with anyone dictating my personal choices. On this and many other issues.
