laundry odor
Comments (6)Wow... don't have first-hand experience with that, but interesting problem. Do you have a frontloader or a toploader, and do you soak your son's work clothes separately first? I think my general approach with anything that dirty (which for me was cloth diapers) is to use more water and to soak out most of it and discard that water before starting on the main wash cycle. Hence my question about frontloader or toploader because if you are using a frontloader and not soaking his clothes in the sink first, I'd think a frontloader simply cannot handle that amount of "dirt" with the limited amount of water they use....See MoreSummertime laundry odors?
Comments (21)Wash and rewash everything in hottest possible setting. Use several rinses on top of it even if you think it is rinsed enough. Use one cycle after this without any detergent. Use extra detergent (at least double)in first rewashing. Switch detergents too.I had problem like this about year ago w/my BF clothing and some of the towels even thou I never had any smell, mildew etc. in my FL's.I posted info about this somewhere here before. My BF started throwing things away, but after I rewashed everything many times over, it stopped and we have no problems now. You can soak and resoak, ton of laundry together in the bath tub and transfer it in wash machine to finish it out. I use only Persil now which is the wonder soap for me. We have hard city water. I used Cascade on regular basis in past plus Borax, baking soda but it is just hassle to have all sitting around. I never used bleach b/c I'm allergic to it. I use splash of vinegar in the rinse. If you have some mildew in the machine and you do all the rewashing in hot and sanitary (preferably sanitary only)w/adding Cascade to it, it will help clean your machines inside too. When it comes to our laundry, I don't care if I use more water for all the extra rinsing. It is absolutely necessary for me knowing that no detergent residue is left in b/c my BF has bad dermatitis. Todays machine cycles don't rinse properly specialy if you fill them up w/ full load. Use mixed loads too. It helps a lot! CS did not work for me either. P.S. Interesting thing about Tide. I was almost out of Persil so I got some Tide powder and did few loads and my towels are getting grey again and my BF started itching and breaking out too! Even w/ all the extra rinsing! He doesn't know I switched. Can't wait for the Persil to come....See MoreKitty Litter in Laundry Room Question......
Comments (39)Four indoor cats here -- and one litter box! It is kept in the unused master bathroom bathtub! A hard decision -- but that spot has worked out SO well for us. Our litter box must be lidless because our cats literally outgrew the lid itself! LOL! The best thing of all is that the box cannot be seen because of the high walls of the tub AND the fact the tub is located behind the "swing" of the door so I love it! And the tub is easy to clean too! Our policy is scoop out the box several times during the day -- into a grocery bag, tie it shut, and stash in a tall brass garbage bin (which also has a medium sized plastic bag) that JUST fits in a empty slot between the vanity and the shower. The garbage can is emptied once a day out to the main outside garbage can. We were lucky that a litter container JUST fits in behind the brass bin too! So the extra-large main container of litter sits in the garage -- and the DH fills up the one in the bathroom. The scoop is kept in a pretty garbage bin just under-and-behind the toilet -- so it is out-of-sight too. But still handy! Along with a brush-and-pan to sweep up any scattered litter. And a deodorant spray like Febreeze (which works great BTW!) I would dearly love a better spot -- but this house has no basement nor a laundry room so this system has worked for all of us! Comments (31)Yes I put it in with powder detergent and have no issues. I don’t use any liquid laundry detergent but if I did I remember asking lemishine and they’ve said you add it to the drum first then add laundry and start machine. I have tried borax, oxiclean, you name it on his tragic laundry and citric acid is what seems to work lol he wears grayish work pants and they come home black most days. I also have a cheap Frigidaire front load washer and it cleans amazingly considering it’s a cheap version. I do always do a prewash cycle with a tad of laundry detergent and about 1/2 tsp of citric acid (machine has prewash cycle built in) along with a hot wash with max soil and come out looking like new. I use cheer powder for detergent with citric acid (1 table.) I do have extremely had water and add 1/4 cap of liquid calgon (I add to drum first then cloths) and that seems to be the key for me at least....See Moredeniseh
