Are you happy with your frameless shower?

Can you share pictures of your frameless showers (preferabely with a curb) please? I am particulary interested in looking at the way the glass is placed on the curb, the door hinge and bottom of the door.

I am dissapointed with the way my frameless glass enclosure functions (water comes out in several spots) and would like tips on how to improve it. I have a few questions. Hopefully, it will help me figure out a way to close the gaps we have:

How is your glass installed - directly on the curb (with silicone to seal it) or clips or U-channels on the bottom?

Is there a gap under the door and curb?

How do you make sure water does not come out of the gap between the glass door and hinges?

Suggestions please...

For our main bathroom, we saved $$ by buying a readymade frameless shower. I don't know who the manufacturer was but we bought it at Rona. It was easy for my gc to put it in, but we have had problems with it. It is wobbly and the door hinges loosen over time. We have had water leakage leading to our replacing some trim. We put in a made to order shower door in our ensuite and it is so nice. I love it. So you get what you pay for in the end.

When I had the shower door guy out to measure, he made a point of checking how high the shower head was. Ours is on a sliding bar, so it can go up pretty high. We have a 6" curb and a 6' shower wall/door height, and it is fine with our standard 8' ceiling. Our "gap" is 18". Remember also that this "gap" benefits the air circulation in your shower to help dry it out so that you don't get moldy grout. Unless you have a very high shower head (very tall shower user) you should be fine.

It took me several months and many many glass companies coming out to give quotes to find the right glass company to do my shower. (long story) Just keep getting quotes. I didn't want anyone drilling into my floor so with each person that came out I learned a little more. My shower consists of 3 panels. One of the fixed panels is 1/2" and it runs from floor to ceiling and has 3 clips, 2 in the wall and 1 on the ceiling to hold it solid in place. The door (3/8") swings off of this panel and the other panel 3/8" is fixed with only one small clip at the top and the rest is silicon-ed in. It works terrific and it is beautiful. One thing I learned is nothing is easy and even if you hire someone to do it you practically have to learn the trade.

Lol (I'm reading the comments thus far).. I did learn I have the u channel set up. Thanks John. Back to the org post, I'm no pro but my shower is about 46 inches wide. If you have a 42" opening then can't the installer do a set up similar to mine, but with a door that is a couple inches less in width? The door I have is the widest I could go, per the installer, so I don't see why you couldn't just do a door a couple inches less in width with the same fixed side??? By the way, my installer let me scroll thru pics on his phone of his past work. I saw all sizes with both u channels (aka the strip lol) and clamps.. My glass is 3/8" thick... Half inch cost more of course. I didn't even have him quote me half inch... Let us know what you find out

Ours has a sweep at the bottom of the door between the door and the curb. Not sure if that is the same thing that david mentions above but no water leaks out at all.

Our glass is installed right on the curb with silicone and there are no leaks. However, we did have a problem with leaking under the door due to the fact that the curb was not installed so that it would drain into the shower. The glass man put in this little dam under the door which has solved the problem. When the door is closed the dam is not visible.

I feel bad because I'm posting the same picture in three posts in a row here, but I swear it's applicable to all of them. Anyway, there are two clips on the bottom of each panel. The glass sits on the curb and then the entire seam is sealed with silicone. I did have one clip leak and they came back to fix it (took it off, squeezed some silicone in there, then sealed it up and let it dry for 24 hours).

Other than that ... no leaks.
