New & need help..is this a good deal on SZ685?

We have just finalized our plans to remodel our kitchen and I have an opportunity to purchase a new 42" SZ 685 for $5500.

It is still crated and full warranty applies. I know this model has been discontinued but I could find anywhere that indicated people were unhappy with it. I had planned to go with the 42 KA built in but the price ends up being about the same. Should I do the older model SZ or opt for the new model KA????

Any advice??? I need to make a decision quickly as he leads me to think this will go quickly at this price.

I would definitely buy the SZ older model over the KA. THe older model SZ's are better from what I have been told than the new models because the new models limit how cold you can make your fridge and freezer. Me, I like really, really cold milk.

Thx so much. I am going to go ahead and do it. I figured I would have heard from a ton of people if it were a huge mistake. The appliance dealer for got it was on the warehouse floor. It's still in the crate and SZ confirmed the warranty doesn't start until installation...After lurking here for over a year, I have started to doubt myself now that it is "show time" for the kitchen!!

it was a domestic US flight - so no customs! I had a packed box with plants in checked suitcase and another in carry-on. nobody even asked anything. as far as i know hawaii needs plant cert to get in/out, cali to get plants in and fl has citrus restrictions. but others - no problems. trini, can you advice us on light for thai ags? the best i could find was very bright indirect sun, with very early/very late weak sun 1-2 hours beneficial for color. i already managed to burn one leaf in FL in not so weak sunset light. any idea in foot candles/lux? i cannot find any ref to that anywhere at all. i think they are close to ming aralia in growing conditions. hopeful, don't thai ags start spotting on leaves in cool temps? do yours have spots/yellow leaf margins? mine were for 2 weeks at may be 62F AT THE ROOTS and one young leaf started showing gray spots, now turning yellowish. i immediately put it on a heating pad and raised temps in the room to 70F (near windows is cooler by 5F). i also have tropical ferns/aralias/anthuriums/african masks that can't stand getting cold feet - they were all tented when i was away and temps were at 65F. that's how i keep them going well. should've tented ag too right away!

hosta do NOT come true from seed .... mostly non-descript green ones ... do you have any budget at all ... we can recommend some great mail order places ... and you can get a box full for about $100 ... by the time you count all your postage in trading... you might not be all that far ahead ... or behind ... when i started out... the link below was one of my favorites .. big plants.. at great prices ... never looked at their website before... i cant believe what they offer for $5 and under ... go figure ... good luck ken Here is a link that might be useful: white oak nursery

Steven, Everything I've read/heard indicates they are easy to grow. They are hard to train, due to their very woody vines. Some say they can tolerate as much light as you can give them, others say the leaves wash out when too much light is given. Mine is in a west facing window with all my ther sun-loving hoyas. I got mine as an unrooted cutting in April. It has already gotten 5 new leaves since, and there are five more emerging. The leaves are slow to come, I think due to their thick, fleshy character. They like to grow dry. Can't give any info on flowering, as mine is just a cutting. Hope this helps, Maid~

Have you actually seen this frig or read the reviews of it? They look pretty negative from what I see.

If the Fridge was made between 2004-2007, a "Big Shot" at SZ has confirmed they got a bad batch of copper, which lead to a significant number of evaporator failures.
This same guy acknowledge that might have been part of the reason Consumer Reports tagged them as the most repair prone Fridge.This same guy mentioned that another thing that could have "skewed the reliability curve" was that, back then SZ had a 2 year warranty covering "Everything"--alto not sure that bodes well for SZ's reliability for the 2nd year?
CR ratings still not that great but one wonders if they keep up to date or do they leave the old data in, which would tend to make things look really worse than they are? We did have a post from one user, can't recall what model--semms like he had 11 of them with no problems, as I recall, but another poster popped up shortly after that and had 3 SZ's where the evaporators failed.
The big shot usta like to mention that they replaced all the evaporators free---but as luck would have it, another poster popped up and said they had to pay for their evaporator replacement.

Maybe at the price you gonna get it at, it would be worth taking the chance, alto I have never experienced a fridge failure--I dont buy SZ's and I sure hope you can avoid it--that hasta be a bummer to open the door to warm food.
