Spray over and over with Natures Miracle. This stuff really works!

I've been using NM for about a week for cat odors, and can still detect the smell. How much longer do I need to continue using it until I notice improvement?

I'm starting to worry! ;o)

A black light will show you where the exact spots that need cleaning are. There are some designed just for finding urine (available at pet stores) but I've just used a regular black light bulb, too.

Once you find the spots, scrub them with some hydrogen peroxide or color safe bleach (which has hydrogen peroxide in it) as that breaks down the crystals that forms from the urine. You can't get rid of the smell until you get rid of those crystals.

Find a laundry detergent that has enzymes in it (Bio-Kleen is one), mix it with some warm water (not hot, just warm) and douse the area. I mean seriously get it wet as you want the enzymes to be able to work for a few hours. Give it a good scrub again and rinse with some vinegar water.

Spraying the clean area with straight vinegar and letting that dry naturally will help keep the dogs from marking there again. The vinegar smell will dissipate in a few hours.

I've located the spots already, as they seem to be the same ones, over and over. Will the peroxide hurt wood floors? How about the detergent, seeing that it has to be mixed wth water, which could result in mold underneath the floor. With the NM or the peroxide I don't think I would have to worry about inviting a mold problem. Did you use on wood or carpet? TIA ;o)

I'm sorry, my brain was still thinking cement floors. No, don't let wood or carpet get that soggy.

You'll still need to break down those crystals, so try washing your wood with straight vinegar, as peroxide has a tendency to remove varnish. Get a towel wet with the vinegar and scrub the area. You'll probably have to do it several times, using a new cloth each time. Rinse it with warm water to get the acid up and blot it dry. Then try your NM on it again.

The problem with a hardwood floor is the urine may have soaked into the grain and between the cracks. If that's the case, you may have to sand the area to get rid of it. If you end up doing that, then there's no reason you can't use the peroxide.

I've used the peroxide and detergent on carpet. Mine is a very light carpet, so there was no fear of the peroxide bleaching it. Color test a darker carpet, or use vinegar. Mix about 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water and then work it into your carpet. Blot it dry with a clean towel. Follow it with the detergent or your NM again. If using the detergent, work it into the carpet (not getting it sopping wet, of course) then blot it dry with a clean towel. The enzymes will continue to work as it dries.

Once it's dry, put straight vinegar into a spray bottle and mist the area. That will help keep them from marking there again.

Thank you paprika! I've coninued to spray with the NM and I think it must seep thru the wood, especially at the baseboards, as it's gone after an hour or so. Could it be from alcohol in the NM? The odor does seem to be fading, so maybe if I continue with enough regularity, and the seepage under/thru the wood(if in fact that IS what's happening), the problem might be eleveated.

I've also ordered a product mentioned here, Odormute, but haven't received it yet. ;o)
