Monogram Advantium Choice Help

Hi,

I've already decided (and ordered) a SCA1001KSS GE AdvantiumÂ 120 Oven - Stainless Steel to replace our current OTR microwave.

I'm considering replacing our current double oven with either:

GE Monogram ZSC1001KSS 30" Advantium 120 single Oven

GE Monogram ZET1SMSS 30" Convention Oven

ZET2SMSS GE Monogram 30" Electronic Convection Double Wall Oven

With 2 kids, we currently cook lots of:

frozen pizzas (1 in each oven since they are at diff temps)

French Fries

Corn Dogs

Chicken Breasts

Chicken Nuggets

Baked Potatoes

Grilled Sandwiches

We don't do a lot of baking (cakes, pies), but do some cookies.

Based on often doing 2 pizzas at the same time, etc, would be get enough use to warrant 2 Advantium's speed cooking?

I have the Adv 120 and the Monogram oven. (one of each) The Advantium is my 2nd oven as well as microwave. The microwave part is great, and I have baked cookies in the 120 with convection. They were fine! I'm not really sure about the speedcook part - timing is a learning curve if you want crispy reheated pizza crusts and I'm not sure it's as good as putting the pizza on my pizza stone in the big oven. We just got the oven so I really haven't had time to experiment. HOwever, it would be nice to have a 2nd microwave while you are using the Advantium for something else like baking.

I love the roll-out racks in the Monogram ZET1 oven. I'm using it now for a huge roast and it is pure joy to pull the shelf all the way out and lift the cover with one potholder!

We bought Monogram oven and an Adv 120 also. We too have small children who enjoy a similar type of cuisine. I purchased the Adv 120 just for that purpose. I have heard that it is excellent at these quick types of meals. It was just installed on Friday so I haven't had a chance to put it to the test yet. I'll let you know when I have a chance to experiment (probably in a couple of weeks, as we are busy with Passover right now).

The open door of my Advantium measures 35" from the floor. Here is a picture of my 8 year old son (2nd grade, 52.5" tall) reaching into the oven on tip-toes. He's not quite tall enough to safely use this oven. Here's a second picture with my son using a Rubbermaid stool that we keep handy in the pantry next to the ovens. He easily can use the oven while on the stool, although in reality he has never used the oven himself. Also, my bottom drawer is 6 1/8" (outside measurement) and 4 1/8" inside measurement. It would have been nicer if the inside were a bit deeper. My drawer can not quite accomodate a raised rack that came with the Advantium. I never have needed to use it, but if someone were going to use it regularly, they would need deeper storage to keep it handy.

sayde, I know that you are going down the same path as I for the past few months. I will be using my Miele speed oven exactly the same, under the counter. I will also keep 30 inch all gas 10 year old Viking in the kitchen. I ruled out the Electrolux speed oven because it cannot be mounted under counter. I looked at KA MW convection oven and Advantium. I felt that the oven features in both were not nearly as compelling for me as the Miele. The price difference was not that much with the Chef Oven (the Master Chef was more, as you know) The clincher in the appliance selection for me was the "look". I want really flush mounted appliances. I don't want anything to stick out 1/2 inch to 1 inch from the adjacent cabinets. I am spending a fortune on my modern slab cabinets with grain matching veneer. I really want that sleek look. Unfortunately, American appliances do not deliever that look. I am not sure why they can't make it happen, but they don't... I am keeping my 10 year old Viking because it is cobalt blue and I love the color. The Viking will stock out a bit. Oh well. I was very tempted to replace it with an induction top and an Euro oven for the look and "increased" functionality. (5 to 8K price difference stopped me!) I decided to put the money into the integrated frig. I am getting Thermador freedom column for the look..... If you are not sure what the integrated look is, go look at the Miele web site. All of their appliances are at exactly the same front level as the adjacent cabinets. They don't stick out at all. Between the appliance and the cabinet is only 1/16 to 1/8 inch space, as would be any well hung frameless cabinets should be. If you panel the Miele DW or frig, you would never know that anything is behind it. Hope this helps.

Malhgold, the cabinets are from Ultracraft in red birch with a Golden stain. I do not have the Trivection. The oven is the Monogram ZET1SLSS, which the OP was asking about way back when (but it wasn't installed yet when the question was first posted). I'm really happy with the oven. Seems to pre-heat quickly, love those full extension racks, and love the feel of the knobs (they click softly as you turn the dial). The display and the timer function is simple and intuitive. Baking seems very even, Fan reasonably quiet. Interior light illuminates the whole oven well, and stays on the whole time oven is running (you can't control the interior light). At first that bugged me, but now I realize that I am less likely to forget to turn the oven off when I am done. The Advantium has a steep learning curve, and at first I was not thrilled, but now that I am getting the hang of it, I am liking it much better. I re-heated garlic bread tonight with cheese on top, and it came out perfect! Fresh, crispy, restaurant quality. Better than my old toaster oven could do. It took 7-8 minutes, though. Not as speedy as I thought a speed oven would be. I suspect the 240 advantium is quicker. I guess I am just impatient. No pre-heat time required, so it was better than the big oven or broiler would have been for this task. I did frozen chicken tenders for the kids last night, and they were relatively quick (8 min I think), and came out great. The microwave only function is very easy to use - my favorite is the express start button. Hit it once and it starts, with 30 sec on the timer. Hit it again and it adds 30 sec increments. Or turn the dial after it starts to add or subtract time in any amount you want. Very easy! I also like the sensor re-heat feature. It tells you when your food is piping hot, but not burned - no guessing. As a plain microwave it is not as powerful as my old microwave - but not too bad. I really need to play with it some more. I find it a PITA to change the trays when going from speed cook to microwave, though. And the fan on the Advantium is fairly noisy. Minor annoyances. I picked the Monogram over the Profile just for looks. The handles matched my hardware better, and I liked the square face, not curved. Snowy, I was told the same thing, that the only diff betw the Monogram and Profile versions of the 120 advantium was the look (and the price!) Same appliance, different face. Hope this info is helpful.

Thanks again, pillog. There "might" be a couple of minor feature differences, but it just may be that they had two separate editors preparing the charts: From the chart, it looks as if there's no quick "add 30 sec" M/W button on the Monogram while there is one on the Profile, but if you check out the users' manual, the control layouts are identical. Hmmm. I'm trying to decide between either Advantium and the Miele. it's a hard choice. The Advantiums (advantii?) seem to have an easier-to-use MW, while the Miele's conventional and combination mw/conv functions seem to come out on top. One thing that bothers me is that it looks as if there's no way to disable the turntable with the Advantium. Even my lowly 10-year old above-the-range GE MW could do that. That's a real drawback. What about conventional baking in a rectangular pan? According to the manual, you're only supposed to use the middle rack if there's already something on the turntable. Am I mistaken here? You already have order an advantium for otr I don't see why you would want a second. I have the 120 advantium and really like it but don't see need for two. If it were me I would probably go for the double convection ovens. But that is just my opinion.

Well, at least everyone seems to love their advantium's so I'm sure we will love our 120 OTR when it arrives.

Maybe I'm missing something, but based on what I've read, it seems to me that you have a lot more flexibility having 2 advantium 120's and 1 convection oven than you do having 1 advantium and 2 ovens.

With a 120 advantium you have a microwave, convection oven (smaller than a normal oven), speed cooking capability and a warmer.

Thus with the 120 OTR and the 120 built-in I could have 2 speed cooking items going, 2 microwaves, 1 of each, etc. Plus the 1 regular convection oven for larger baking needs, etc.

Is there a weakness to the advantium I'm missing?

My 120 is built in, not OTR. I couldn't get the 240V because I only had 27" and the 240 is 30". I know the 240 Advantium is much faster in the speedcook function but the current oven has a smaller interior than the 120. You might want to look into the supposedly new 240 that is coming out; I hear rumors that it is the same size interior as the built-in 120V. See what you can find out. There is an advantium yahoo group which could be helpful to you.

The 120 convection bake is fine and so is the MW. I am still trying to figure out whether the speedcook on the 120vis any faster than the convection - but I don't really care. I love my ovens.
