White marble tile on top of dark gray thin set...help

The company we bought our marble from, the black and white marble to be used in our foyer and hallway, just told me we need a white thin set underneath because otherwise the darkness will show through under the white tiles. Our tile setter used a dark gray thin set and now I'm rather nervous. It's obvious we will see the dark through the marble as they are rather transparent compared to darker tiles. What on earth do we do? He knew we were putting white marble down and I didn't think to question him since I know nothing of thin set.

****I'm editing to say that the dark gray the tile setter used is for the metal mesh and he has not put the thin set on yet. If he uses white thin set will that be light enough on top of gray cement or mesh subfloor for the translucent white tiles?
