HELP!! Shark Steam Mop problem
Comments (9)Geez, I have a bad habit of not reading through the entire post before responding. I'm sorry, I see now that you'd already been using a steamer. It's entirely possible that it's the cloths. Perhaps you should try washing them before using them. I know that same thing has happened to me several times with my steamer and at the time I had never used any cleaner on my new tile. I try to wash the cloths by themselves, but there's been a few times other things have accidently been in the wash. I think it makes a difference with the way the microfiber absorbs. I have also recently tried using vinegar/water to mop (I wasn't absolutely sure my canister steamer was cleaner like it should) and it left terrible streaks. I guess I was using too much vinegar? I went and got a Quikie mop (I thought it was a microfiber mop, but it had a cotton cover instead) and you wouldn't believe the dirt that came up! I am a little upset since I thought my steamer was doing such a good job! :(...See MoreDo you have Bona finish or stain on your oak floors?
Comments (6)I wish I had a photo to show you. We used Minwax English Chestnut on our stairs and lower level remodel. It is a rich, deep, true brown with no orange, red, or gray tones. Upstairs, the floors were sanded and given three coats of Bona urethane over no stain. I didn't love the paler color, but the finish wore like iron. On the main floor, we had the existing oak floors sanded and redone, using two coats of Minwax Cherry. Then we put new oak floors in the kitchen and had them matched to the rest. I do have photos showing those floors, if it's any help. They may be more orange than you want. These are the original floors, refinished: The new flooring in the kitchen:...See MoreAnyone have a Shark Mop?
Comments (3)I have one and I love it. .my daughter borrowed it and now she wants one. I have had mine for almost a year. I have heard you can get extra pads for it at Bed Bath & Beyond. Mine only came with two and I need more. I do add a tiny bit of vinegar to the water, it makes it produce a LOT more steam. It's light weight, never bothers my back to use it and I have a lot of tile floors. I would still want it even if I had two room like you to clean. Have you tried it yet? Comments (51)I never said anyone MUST have done anything. I'm saying "check" to see what you used....just in case. Here's my own quote: 'Check to see if the bottle says "Cleaner" or "Polish"'. Now...the question becomes why is Bona Cleaner doing this? Bona Cleaner is a chemical with precise properties. If it is over used it can have deleterious effects. Hazing is the most common presentation. Over use is not the ONLY way to get the haze but it is the MOST COMMON. I've seen people have great experience when they used the cleaner sparingly (1-4 times per year). I've seen people have decent results with the proscribed use (1 per month). But even then, it can have hazing results. Over use would be considered: 1. Too much cleaner used at the time of the application (too much chemical)....the application being 1 per month (which is the proscribed rate). 2. Too much cleaner can mean too many days of application per month. Anything over 2 days per month (24 applications a year) is considered 'over use'. 3. Too much cleaner can mean (and often does) a mixture of both #1 and #2. A little bit too much cleaner used too often. That 'snick' of over use can be part and parcel of ANY wood cleaner that produces a haze. Armstrong and Bruce cleaner also have this issue. So it isn't just Bona....it's just the one with the BIG name that people choose to complain about. What is interesting is, the haze does not develop if the floors are toweled dry....which is to say...the CHEMICAL is wiped off BEFORE it can dry onto the floor and create product build up. Can Bona Cleaner produce a haze on the first application with the right amount of chemical? Hell to the yah! For this to happen, there are many things that have to go very wrong...it it can happen. The most common reason it causes haze on the fist application: it was applied to the wrong TYPE of finish....See MoreBarbara Wood, Keller Williams Milwaukee
