TS 'Cupcakes!'

I found 10 of these Gibson cups at the Habitat TS for .40C each with my senior discount.

I thought they would be perfect for actual "cup"cakes.

I made these for my DGD's B-day.

Everyone thought they were really cute.

I used 2 boxes of strawberry cake mix and pink frosting. Large M & M's are the centers of the flowers. One cake mix made 6 of the "cup"cakes.

Each cup holds 1 1/2 cups of liquid and they are dishwasher and microwave safe. They were large enough that they required actual cake baking time, not cupcake time. I sprayed each cup with cooking spray and the cakes came out easily.

!/2 of each cupcake was enough for a full serving.

Thanks ladies. I should have explained that the crystal globe came on a stand that says "Thank you for making a WORLD of difference for our students" and it is actually an etched globe of the world. Because it is all clear, it is very difficult to photograph because it reflects the flash and just looks like a glowing sphere! Nana, maybe someday we will see you on Pawn Stars with those green stamps, LOL Seriously, with everything that people collect, there are probably people out there who would collect those. I decided to use the bamboo handled flatware because bamboo is considered a green product as it grows so fast. Thanks again, Candy

Kath, the mini cheesecakes are DD's fav so I had to make those! The brownie pops were something new I tried and she has now added them to her new favorites list. Of course, the cupcakes had to be pink!!! Marlene, this will make the DGK count at 10, 6 girls and 4 boys. Our oldest DGD just graduated from HS this past June and now we will have a brand new one, so quite a stair step range on the ages. Karen, I am not much of a game person, but DD requested the diaper game, so I had to honor her request. It turned out to really be a lot of fun with all of the adults laughing hysterically and as the picture shows, grossing out the little ones!! Luvs, thank you! I was very excited to find the castle as it was just what I had been looking for and the alternative was a $20 pinata from Target that was much larger and not as cute. Also, all of the items that came from Doll. Tree really helped out on the budget. I was amazed to find the baking section in one of the larger stores and then to find the pink cupcake and the pink mini cupcake liners!! Score!! They didn't even have them in the baking section at Jo*Ann's. Just the pastel assorted ones, no solid color choices at all! I really like the strawberries, the only drawback is they can't be made too far in advance. Kathleen, clever pun!! Thank you for the prayers. Can't have too many of those. Now we are working on the nursery, getting everything ready. The bassinet is the one I used for both my daughters, so that is very special to me. 4 of my 5 DGK's will have used it. Marlene, thank you so much. I was so excited to see that bust in the TS as I think she has a really sweet face and is just perfect for what I wanted! I have been looking for one for quite a while but they are rare creatures in thrift stores! The mini pumpkin mugs were acquired one by one but I finally have a set of them. Both sets of plates in the hutch were still in their original boxes! Good luck on finding your mini pumpkins. Punk, thank you too! I pretty much have the entire lower level of the house Halloweened (is that a word? LOL) out! Except for DH's office, I only get to decorate that for Christmas and then it is minimal. This is my first time decorating the top of the hutch as I am running out of places to put things, so moved higher LOL!! Jeanne, I bought the Poe book last spring at a YS in Sedona and wasn't even thinking Halloween, it was just a beautifully bound book. BUT....when I started to get out the Halloween decor - light bulb moment!! I had found the large black raven at a TS this year and the frame was from last year, so it all started coming together. The fact that I had that black cabinet, (GdWl several years ago) seemed like the perfect place to display it! Especially as you observed, Poe was dark and most of his work was as well! The top of the hutch will stay after Halloween. All I have to do is exchange the Trick or Treat bucket for a different holder, and remove the little Jack O'Lantern. The Jacks on the fridge top seem very vintage feeling to me and they are all smiling, : ) Maybe it was the Boo on the ghost cupcake that frightened you! We used to mix HUGE batches in the bakery and fill DOZENS of trays and never had a problem with rise. I would say it could be up to 30 minutes from mixer to ovens but that said we were using huge commercial ovens too. I would suggest you bake no more than 36 cupcakes at a time and try and keep them so the tops of the liners are about in the middle of the oven and there is room for air to circulate. At home I bake in my Miele ovens and preheat the oven to 375, put the cupcakes in and turn down to 350. If your oven isn't hot enough, you'll have the opposite problem and the cupcakes will overflow the liners. I can get 24 cupcakes on a rack at a time. Good luck and can't wait to see what you've made.

Candy, DGD's cupcakes are darling. Wonderful decorating job. I really like your cute cake plates you displayed them on. Hope your BDay party was fun after all that work.

I'm sure DGD will remember her cupcakes in the cups Dear Nana made forever.

My dd just informed me she wants to have Easter at her home this year. She said DGD thinks Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc only stops at Nana's. Guess we'll change her way of thinking. This works for me.LOL

Jeanne, she did love the cupcakes, and she and her 4 yr. old cousin ate the M & M's off of the ones that were left.

Kath, I used to decorate cakes a lot more, but just don't seem to have the time to do as much now. Thank you.

Luvs, I did decorate the cupcakes. Thanks for the compliment. The cups are actually white, it is just the lighting.

Punk, the cake plate is an Easter one that I found at a TS and matches some pieces I bought on clearance at HL after Easter several yrs ago. I set it on top of a silver tray that I use for parties to hold the rest of the cups.

Enjoy your day at DD's. It will be nice for you to have the day off for a change.

Now, that is SO clever. I really like that idea. A person could pick up a number of tea cups and keep them handy to bring to people for birthdays, get well soon gifts, congratulations, etc. Probably couldn't find ones as big as yours, but that's OK. I'm going to start a collection of cups-for-cake-gifts tomorrow! Thanks, Candy.

Your "cup"cakes are adorable and you did a great job decorating them.
Your DGD is a lucky little girl.

OA, The only caveat I would say is to avoid any cups that just say "made in China" just because of the lead problem with Chinese products. If they are a name brand that was made in China, then they are probably OK.

Nana, Thank you, I am a lucky Grandma too! Gannon was 6 and she was very appreciative of "her" cupcakes!!
Also, baby Dylan just got her first tooth!!

Jane, actually the cups are just plain white, but as OA said, you could find different theme cups and decorate accordingly.

I'm super late to the Cupcake Party...but those are the neatest cupcakes ever! I love them. And like Yacht, I thought they were ceramic at first. ;o)

Lovely Candy! When I posted that cupcake idea a while ago, people were amazed you could bake in cups!
