Is the wax gone? Are the stems also glass? Do they detach?

She used them for decoration only, never burnt the candles. They have a 4" across base, and three candle holders spreading up from one stem. All glass.

Sounds like it's all one piece of glass...
Perhaps it was intended to be that way...
Is the stem part clean? Just yellow? Or dirty film that is yellow?

It seems to be a dirty film of some kind. All the other glass pieces I've cleaned; sconces, vases, candy dishes, etc. cleaned up with just a soft scrub in ivory dish soap. But the candle sticks didn't. I don't want to etch the glass in any way by using a stiff scrubber, or use to harsh a chemical. So - Help!!!

Maybe you could try rubbing it clean with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball to cut the residu. You should be able to see if the cotton ball is removing the soil quite easily.

Immerse them in a pan and toss in a couple of denture cleaning tablets....
That won't hurt the glass.....and may clean it up.
BUT....I am wondering if they are that flashed glass of the 50's that actually has a coating of yellowish sort of paint....

Thanks guys. Last night rubbed with rubbing alcohol, and the white cloth came back with brownish stuff on it. So tonight will try the denture cleaner route. Will let you know.

If that doesn't work, try soaking them in vinegar & water solution (1/2 & 1/2). I use this technique on all my crystals.
