Bunnies Hopped To My Doorstep ... My 'Happy Spark' Day!

Yesterday I was napping & DH got a box from the mailman at our front door ... I am still fighting the influenza junk (over 5 wks now)...14-day antibodics kicked it the middle of last wk but 3 days later, it came back strong! (yes, I am doctorin', cryin' & complainin')...so 'nuf said!

But, like jane said on another post, Punk put a "Happy Spark" into her day ...well, my pkg came from Arkansas ...from our "froufrou" here on the form & these 2 natural bunnies were ready to hop out of the box:

frou also sent a cute vintage (lady)card that she thought Dollbaby would enjoy...so here she is w/the card & bunnies:

I let Dollbaby keep the card ...but the bunnies went on the buffet! Thank you, frou, for this "Happy Spark" in my day, too..."excessfroufrou" was my Secret Santa on the GJ forum this past Christmas...so those bunnies knew how to get here! Ain't they the CUTEST! Jeanne S.

Jeanne, I'm so happy Frou sent the vintage card and bunnies to you! I can see why you moved the bunnies away from Dollbaby. Looks like she's ready to reach out and touch Somebunny! Cute picture.

I didn't realize you were still dealing with influenza. Sure hope you get over it soon. Great timing with Frou sending sweet bunnies and card your way.

BTW Frou, those bunnies are so neat and perfect with Jeanne's decor. How sweet you came through when Jeanne needed you. Your not only her Secret Pal at Christmas but DF all year long. That's why we love it here.

Jeanne, love your gr pitcher and berry vine with your new bunnies. Such a pretty combination. Always great to hear about a "Happy Spark" to someones day.

I started out with three bunnies that we 'thought' were all female. I also have 18 chickens. We put them all in the chicken coop which has a large indoor and large outdoor area. The outdoor area is also covered on top with chicken wire. The bottom edges has the wire going under ground for a little ways inside the area. Our bunnies did mate, 'as one turned out to be female' and they all dug tunnels under the doorway of the indoor part of the coop, 'The hen house'. The tunnels lead all the way to the other side of our hen house and out into the open. We live way back in the woods in the country in northern Michigan. Our bunnies only go all the way out occasionally but mainly stay inside the caged area. They have a good 10 by 14 feet to run in the outside part and seem to feel safe there. One time a wild rabbit did make it through the tunnel to the inside and I'm sorry to say, my male rabbits killed him. Nothing else has ever come through the tunnel to the inside. My rabbits run up to me when I enter to feed them and the female stands up on her back legs looking up at me. It's so cute how they greet me when I enter the area. I realize they might not make it long with the tunnel there in case they go out and something gets to them. But the life they do have now is worth every second since they're so happy. I also will not have them neutered or spayed as I want them to live as wild rabbits would live, as I believe they should have the chance to live, breed, roam, etc. My chickens don't even seem to care that they're there and sometimes my rabbits will share the indoor area with my chickens at night as I leave their door cracked open a little for air. 'The chick coop door is open to the outside caged area'. All my animals are very happy and healthy. In face, my chickens are laying more eggs now that it's winter and everything I've read said they would slow down. They all get the right foods and plenty of treats. When my grandchildren visit, I sometimes let them go in a pet and play with the chickens and rabbits so they're used to people. They DON'T pick up the rabbits though mainly because sometimes children don't pick up animals in a correct way and I don't want them hurt. So far, all is well and I will most likely find homes that also allow some amount of free range for the baby rabbits which should be ready any time now to go. I still lurk and smile when reading -and seeing- cottontail postings. *Elly's compliments are very kind.* Good advice to google. Off the top of my head I can't recite the best sites I've found for helping cottontail youngsters. By the sound of it, I'm guessing the kids are two or so weeks old. Though genetics make some youngsters super big and other cottontail babies less robust. Eyes open at approx. 7-10 days. If they jostle for best position in the shallow nest, they gotta be an adequate gram weight. Yeah, I would very carefully try to recover the nest with fur but the baby kits could also undo your well intentions if they are large enough to forage outside. If the fur is partially moved, i'm guessing they are sneaking about and nibbling area greens. Hope they won't be spotted by a crow or hawk or land-roaming predator and they'll move to safety real soon. How long before they leave a nest? Is it mother bunny who leads the way for them to a more safe location. -Nope, they can just spelunker out on there own, get scared and scatter, or go searching for alternative safe haven. There is lots of high vegetation on my property but she chose to nest them right next to my garage under a small low growing pine. -Whew, good the nest is under an evergreen and near your garage to discourage easy spotting. The nest appears not to be deep but I am just guessing at that. Some of the fur nexting material has moved off of them from their movement. Should I put that back over the opening? -I'd be tempted to recover the nest and take huge strides away but sounds like they'll be mobile soon and move out. Mom will nurse for 2+ full weeks and start to wean around day 17. If they've made it to jostling position, I commend you for keeping the predators far away. Hope you can create some brushy or fortified hidey areas for the little ones... I will ditto elly and vonyon's sentiments. Best of luck in helping them off to a good start ~ and cottontail-safe haven.

Syble, I'd be the last one to call anyone else kooky! LOL I believe there could be all sorts of things that have no proof. I've heard about the orbs from people who live in old houses which is why I was so surprised to see them in one pic I took in my own relatively new house. I do hope you will show us pics of your vintage furs. I'm especially interested as I *almost* started collecting them but had to draw the line somewhere. Had one but let it go to another home. I let my few bunnies out of the Easter box this am altho don't *really* have a collection. So much fun to have these things to 'play' with! I'm in the process of arranging my 'play room' these days altho it's technically a craft room which I am calling "My Atelier" just because it sounds so la-di-da! Then my French speaking husband burst my balloon this am when he told me that atelier just means a workroom. Hmmff!!! It also means an artist's studio and hopefully I'll become more artistic there! ;-) I'm waiting on having a table to decorate as DH is painting my breakfast room buffet and hutch *right in the breakfast room*!!! Too heavy to move out then back so all the stuff that was in it is on the table, etc. Soon to be finished. I don't have a lot of St. Pat's stuff either altho might try a table *if* I have one soon!

Jeanne..Ain't The 'Happy Spark' feeling just wonderful?
'Sweet Frou' found you the cutest bunnies to do that, and they look right at home on your buffet. I don't think I've ever seen any like them...they're so life like. Dollbaby's friend is adorable and so unusual too and just perfect for her to keep her mind off the little bunnies.

Sorry that awful flu is stil with you. Gosh that's a long time. I hope you get some nice weather so you can sit out in the sun and take in some fresh air.
Frou...you're 'one of the lovely reasons' we come to this forum...not only do we share the same interests...it seems we look out for one another too, and it's so heartwarming.

what a sweet thing to do and to receive....now that flu could be something like SIDO which is when the bacteria lingers in the colon.....ask dr...they have special meds for that and you will feel on top of the world really soon.

What a sweet surprise! That vintage card lady almost looks like Dollbaby "all grown up". ;o) Those cute little bunnies have unusual looking "fur", what are they made of? Frou,that was really sweet of you to send something to make Jeanne feel better. Jeanne, here's hoping you get all well really soon.

What a wonderful surprise!! I'm sure having a happy spark in your day was just the lift you needed.
This bug you have is lasting waay to long.
Dollbaby looks happy as can be with those new treasures. Good thing you took those bunnies away, I think she would have way too much fun with them. She should be content looking at her pretty card tho. The bunnies are adorable. They look like they are made out of the same material as the brush Christmas trees.

Yes, the materials seem like the "bottle brush" type of thing...but little wood ears, feet, etc...they are very CUTE & unusual! (love 'em, Frou!)

luvs...that lady card could be Dollybaby all grown up! You're so smart! LOL!

I ended antibodics about 10 days ago & was doing quite good...got out a few hrs at a time all that week...aunt's funerals, outdoors a few hrs, a few hrs. shopping...had started walking outside more (short walks, nice days)...but 3 days after ending 14-day antibodics, got the cough in the evening & it was like starting all over. I hate it & shared it w/DH (still) ...hopefully, we're getting there! Yesterday was better than day before...today about the same...so tomorrow...even more better (cross fingers)! Thank you. Here's to a "Happy Spark Day" to you all! Jeanne S.

Jeanne...was thinking of you today and hoping you're taking care and doing better.
Not sure exactly of your location in Iowa..but I was also worried that you were not in the path of the Tornado that hit Mapleton. Hope all is okay there by you.

Jeanne, hope you continue to feel better every day. That card is darling. Thanks for the 'Spark". One of my DF's just gave me several Easter Post Cards from early 1900's. I'll have to get some pictures and share.

Tornadoes out in Western IA...one daughter & family live on farm out there...not Mapleton...hate these Spring tornadoes! One house East of small town they live near was destroyed...looks like on weather map there were 12 tornado sitings in a short time around that area! No casualities, which is the GOOD news! Thanks! Jeanne, I was watching weather reports and hoped the tornado wasn't by you. Thank goodness. I'm glad no one was killed but that town sure got destroyed. Scary stuff. I see more severe weather is expected this week, but looks like its missing Iowa and hitting Ohio and parts southeast. Wish I could get all of you out here till weather settles down. Safety, short sleeves, and shopping....Janey, where's that bus?

Those bunnies are so cute, and so "You". (tho don't you feel a tiny bit mean taking them away from Dollbaby? LOL)

Geesh...Karen NOW you tell us...I've got 'The Bus' in the Shop getting it's engine overhauled!!
Just the mention of 'Short Sleeves & Shopping' (okay Safety too)...would create a 'stampede' on your place!!
We could have used some nice hot...hot...weather
and some Retail Theraphy to warm our cold/wet bones!
So Ohio is next??? ...grrrr, now I have relatives who live there,
to think about!! :(
