After several weeks of research, we are ready to purchase our appliances for the kitchen renovation. We found the range, refrigerator, DW and microwave we wanted at Warehouse Discount Center. The savings were about $1500 on the total over the local Lowes, Home Depot and Wholesale Appliance Center.

My question is has anyone used Warehouse Discount Center and if so, were you pleased with them?

Actually about $2000 less. I forgot about sales tax that would have to be paid here.

DH just reminded me we are not saving sales tax, just deferring it until next April 15. Oh.

I'd do a google search on each and see what feedback you can find. We did this when considering online purchase. You have to weed through the feedback to get an overall vibe as it were and don't base your decision off of just one site (who knows who actually runs the site, maybe a competitor??). We found some online places that basically were stealing peoples money and not getting them the product and then all of a sudden there would be a group of great feedback. Once you see this pattern you realize the firm was posting their own glowing reports to counterbalance the acutal customers bad feedback for them. You might also consider printing off the items from the sites that have lower prices that the retailer at least seems to be on the up and up. Then take those print outs down to the local store and explain that you would really like to purchase in town to support local businesses if it was affordable to do so. We did this when looking at a range and although the in town dealer could not match the exact price he did take the price down to what they called the contractor price for us which made it only about $100 or so difference. We ended up with different appliances in the end and bought our range locally for the same money or in some cases less than the online vendors were selling at. For us it was worth it to do so either way. Sure they could close, but we felt better that if we had a problem we could just go down to the store (been open since the 1970's) and get resolution. This thread is over a month old, but I'm having a really difficult time with homeeverything right now and it's soured me on buying appliances online. I ordered a Broan Rangemaster hood, they shipped it UPS and it ended up in Brooklyn instead of New Mexico. Yesterday they told me they re-routed it to NM and when I looked at the UPS tracking this morning it was re-routed to some town in New York that I never heard of. I phoned again this morning to try to get it sorted out and was told they would send a new hood to NM and have the mis-routed one sent back to them. When I got the confirming e-mail the invoice was for TWO hoods! I called, yet again, and am waiting for them to get back to me. Honestly, I've never seen such a mess in ordering anything online. Every phone call requires a lengthy wait on hold, and on the last call I held for 7 minutes and got disconnected. I'm very frustrated right now - buyer beware.

I bought a Lacanche stove via the internet back in 2005, I think, from England, self importing it and dealing with shipping as well. Total cost for the Cluny, Portuguese Blue, including shipping was under $4000. This is actually a very simple stove. It was installed in about 4 minutes, and I have not had any trouble in all these years. My point being, if you know what you want, and you can get significant (emphasis on the significant) savings, and you don't have a "touchy" product, of course you should use the internet. If you anticipate that the appliance will need frequent servicing, perhaps you should re-consider purchasing the product. I'm re-doing my mother's house in a very rural area and will buy a Verona on-line since there don't seem to be any dealers there. On the other hand, there is a somewhat "upscale" appliance dealer within 100 miles which has a service department so in a pinch they could come up to handle it.

I recently purchased a SQ washer at US Appliance and was pleased with their service. The first washer shipped was damaged, I called and they picked up and reshipped without any problems. The shipping time quoted was three weeks but we received them in less than two.

I've bought from US Appliance and AJ Madison online before without any trouble, as well as an appliance dealer from NJ on Amazon.

The one caveat is that you may need to bring them in from your driveway. Not a problem if you have a hand truck. They're $40 at Harbor Freight :)

schicksal, we were wondering about curbside delivery and may buy a heavy duty hand truck. We will clear out one garage bay to store the appliances in and was wondering if the delivery person would just back up to the bay and off load them there.

Also, we went to a local appliance showroom (Wholesale Appliance Center) and the salesman questioned whether the appliances we found from WDC were new in box or scratch and dent or maybe refurbished. I have asked WDC about this but have not heard back yet.

It all depends on the person who's doing the delivery. I've had it range from curbside = curb to getting things in the house. Typically a box truck will do residential area deliveries and whether it can back in or not also depends on the driver, slope and area.

But a hand truck from Harbor Freight is really cheap and makes quick work of getting things in. All your friends will want to borrow it when they move.

Are you comparing pricing delivered and uninstalled everywhere? What's the warranty situation if you self-install? Did you ask the locals to price match?

I'd be a little concerned about the lag between delivery and installation. Will the seller claim the appliance was perfect on delivery, and problems are your fault?

chisue, our renovation has not begun. The cabinet maker said the cabinets could be ready in six weeks. He and the GC will coordinate this (they have worked together many times). The GC will install and I will ask WDC about this also. Hope they will respond soon. The lag time between delivery and install, even if we order this week should be no more than 8 eight weeks. Of course that does take 2 months off the warranty.

The local place cannot come as low on the prices, especially the GE Profile induction range ($2200/2800). But they discount from the prices shown on the showroom floor.

I've renovated two kitchens--everything was purchased online from AJ Madison--and in one case, I ordered from UK. Never a problem.
