If I can locate the papers that came with my new acrylic bath tub (Hydro Systems) I could tell you what they suggested for any scratch repair. I would highly recommend searching Kohler's site and/or contacting Kohler directly. I believe scratches can be repaired without a massive amount of work and I believe your contractor should take responsibility for fixing it. However, I would check up on the solution yourself before he repairs it, to make certain he follows the manufacturers instructions. Well, I don't love mine- but it could be as old as 30 years+. We've been in this house 13 years, and it was already there and well-used when we moved in. When we gut the BR I guess maybe we'll find out if there was anything else there before. And it's more because it is tiny- inside dimensions of 28X30. Certainly don't find it stains- I used a steamer and Oxy-clean to get PO's dirt off, and try to squeegee it after each use- DH couldn't be bothered- not worth nagging him as we're replacing it soon anyways. My Mom built a fairly high end luxury home and put two in her two guest baths- She loves them and definitely the ease of cleaning is an important bonus for her as she approaches her 80's. (In fact, she may have one in her Master shower- I've just never been in there!)

Oh trust me, it bugs me, but if the alternative is having this idiot rip out the tub and try to install a new one, forget it. I just want him and his merry band of morons out of my house. The original gouge was less than 1/2 an inch long, so if he had just filled it in, I probably wouldn't have noticed that the filler color was slightly off. I have NO idea why he decided to leave a huge patch of stuff on the completely undamaged surrounding areas, and basically what I would like to accomplish with sanding is to remove the unnecessary area of the patch and just leave it in the actual gouge. I'm a little concerned that they may have gouged the tub further to try to repair it, thus resulting in a larger patch - but there's no way to find that out other than removing some of the patch. Anyway, I guess I will just see what the contractor thinks he can do to make it look better and if that's not satisfactory, I'll find myself an expert.

I guess I had just been looking at Lowe's and HD to see that a porcelain tub is $255 and acrylic is $250. I figured that was pretty darn cheap and don't see a reason to not go that route. I'll have to look into cast vs regular steel to see what the price difference is. If it's big I'm not sure that I'm willing to spend a big chunk but I'll have to discuss it with my wife.
