Quality of Broan medicine cabinets?

Only partly because of price (largely because of size options) we are looking at a Broan medicine cabinet, comparing it to one by Wave or by Robern. The Broan is significantly less expensive than either Wave or Robern, but I wonder if the quality reflects that? What are the most significant differences between the higher end recessed cabinets (in terms of basic quality - I know some of the options like defoggers and the like go with the higher end stuff and may not be available for less expensive models, but I don't need those things).

I have no desire to replace this medicine cabinet down the road and will pay a bit more if there's a genuine construction/quality difference, but would prefer NOT to pay for the privilege of choosing options I don't need anyway...

The basic difference is that the Broan cabinets are made of steel, or other rustable metal, and the Robern cabinets are made of aluminum, or similar non-rustable material.

Ah -- that helps a lot, thanks! I was focused on "metal" as opposed to plastic (really cheapo) cabinets, but hadn't even noticed the differentiation between steel and aluminum. That is worth extra money to me.

So moving BACK to Robern cabinets, has anyone used them with the side light kits? (In particular, the arch cabinet with the narrow fluorescent side strips?) If so, do you have pictures? How effective are the light strips? I know side lighting is best for makeup, etc., better than top lighting I'm told (true or not?) but we have VERY limited space on the sides. However, if we go with top lighting, I can't find any fixtures that will work well with an arched cabinet. Has anyone done these?

I'm not familiar with some of the series you mentioned. We have 3 different Robern Medicine cabs. Two bathrooms have the mid-range series cabs--the __ series (?--have to check on that) and the MB has a 6" deep M series cab. We are very happy with all three. Did not get built-in electrical outlet. No need for them in our bathrooms. We did recess all three. When we got the first one, for our guest bathroom, they had a lower series which our sales-guy talked us out of. He said it was a builder's grade cab. We'd worked with him before, and he was very good about talking us out of spending money where it wasn't warranted, and when to spring for the bigger $. If he said not to get the other series, I have to believe he had our best interests at heart.

I have read reports of the mirror glass blackening around the edges of med cabs, too. The solution is to only use water and a microfiber cloth when cleaning them. Never use glass cleaner, most of all! I found a space where a med cab used to be in our half bath, behind the wall mirror. It turns out that there is a wall safe made to fit there, too. I got one and my carpenter made a frame around the back side of the mirror, onto which he put a piano hinge. Since it is near the corner of the room, you cannot see behind to see the hinge and the mirror is only about a half inch off the wall, so it is not too noticeable. My friend with the drug habit has not found it, as far as I know, and the safe is working to hold interesting medications and our cash.

I installed this in my bathroom (in polished nickel) and am very happy with it. I have an RH washstand, faucets, sconces, towel bar, pull-out mirror and am happy with all of it. Ordered it sight=unseen (from the catalog). I'm sure the things from Waterworks and Urban Archaeology are nicer but RH is perfectly satisfactory.

Does anyone know if Nutone and Broan are one and the same? I saw 2 Broan med cabs surface mounted side by side,opening in the middle w/all interior mirrors in a showroom and the quality was great, very sturdy. This is the configuration I am after since I like to check out the back view of hair. I have also checked out the same type cabinets in Home Depot (glacier bay) and the quality is nowhere near the same. Nutone has the cabinet in a stainless steel finish which I would like, but Broan only seems to have a white finish (will do recessed mount). I'm just curious whether the quality is the same whether it's Nutone or Broan.
