Your favorite natural laundry products
Comments (7)I use regular detergent in my machine, All Free & Clear HE, Clorox 2 Free, and Downy free. I do make my own cleaning products for the house though. It is very hard to find cleaning products that are not filled with fragrances! I make my all purpose cleaner from water, baking soda, vinegar, a tiny bit of borax, and a bit of natural dish detergent. Works great, I was surprised to find that for most things, it works just as well as the stuff I used to buy. I am always afraid to try recipes for laundry detergent. I love my cloths, and cloths in my size (I am about 5 feet tall) are very hard to find. I would hate to mess them up, or my machine!...See Morewhat's your favorite laundry room paint color? pics?
Comments (9)My LauR is white except for the one wallpapered wall which has a white background. I posted it to that thread, which is in the Gallery on the first page. There may be other white ones there? I'm trying to remember. Mine may not stay white, though. I'm thinking about it. I hope you get good answers right here in this thread, and I hope that those who post their pics here will also take a minute to visit the Gallery and post them there as well. I think the LauR is a great place to be able to do whatever you refrained from doing in the rest of the house. If you want white, go for it! White does say "clean" after all. I can't wait to see your pics when you're done....See Moreshow me your laundry detergent storage?
Comments (17)Thanks so much everyone- these are such great and creative ideas! DH is making fun of me (appropriately perhaps) bc we're actually still in the process of (re)building our house but being an obsessive planner and tiring of researching sinks and flooring, and appliances.. i got thinking about pretty laundry detergent storage for down the road. My I do sound certifiable! Anyway that's why I have no photo as of yet cindyloowoo. Right now I'm stuck doing laundry is in the dark, dank basement of a rental apartment.... but I dream of better days... and I am excited to try the Charlies soap regardless! Love the idea of the kitchen canisters with tablespoon slots since that's all is called for w. Charlies soap- would be nice to have the measuring spoon right there. Thanks again everyone!...See MoreWhat laundry detergent smells the worst in your opinion?
Comments (85)Yes, Cal Ben Seafoam, that's what she uses. I believe it contains some optical brighteners. Her littlest one is allergic to everything else. She can worry about the state of her monster front loader. I don't want my Miele gunked up so I am very careful. But mine also has a 2 hour maintenance cycle run on an empty washer with 165F water. The glass door is too hot to touch. Usually, the rinse water is completely clear at the end of the maintenance cycle. If not, I run it again. I haven't switched as I think my Persil perls does a better job than anything else I've tried. When I washed lingerie at her house some turned gray. I wasn't so impressed but she insists that the soap is best, with fewest "bad" ingredients. I have the German Persil because a box lasts more than a year for me given the soft water and small amounts. I know Germany is very strict about home products and Germans are most demanding of quality. The more of those I try, the more I like them. I also use their floor wax and I'm switching to Pril for my dishes as it works better than anything else I've tried. It's used all over the world except for the US. I know my laundry practices are OK because I saw the tech take the previous washer apart when the heater failed. I asked him specifically if there was any gunk after 2 years of use. He said no, it was pristine. I do use fabric softener for towel loads but I dilute it. Vernel does not get gunky but doesn't smell very good. Mrs. Meyers gets a bit gunky so I dilute by half and give it a vinegar chaser. They both seem to soften towels a bit -- one doesn't seem any better than the other. Towels seems to stay softer washed on warm vs the 140F hot I was using. Oh, I remember Ivory and Lux flakes. Didn't they call that Ivory Snow? They were so slippery and soapy. No idea why they are not still made....See Moreakastj_northern_ca
