Shark Steam Mop -- Not so great
Comments (24)I have the Haan and have now used it on vinyl, ceramic tile and hardwood. It definitely worked well on the really old vinyl in our old house. It never looked clean, but it definitely felt much cleaner when I was done mopping with it. Our new house has ceramic tile in the kitchen and bathroom and recently refinished 50 year old red oak floors throughout the rest. I do think that I can do a more thorough job on my hands and knees with a bucket and microfiber towels, but the Haan does a pretty good job of cleaning the floors well enough to put my crawling baby on them and not cringe. The aforementioned crawling baby doesn't often give me enough time to get down on my knees with the bucket anyway, so the Haan is a good compromise for us. I really need a bunch of extra pads for it, though, as it only comes with 2. My only other complaint about it is that the head is rather tall which makes it hard to slide under furniture or cabinets....See MoreShark Steam Mop
Comments (156)I hate my shark steam mop. I have ceramic tile in dining room & kitchen, hardwood in living room. I've used it about 5 times. Leaves ugly streaks all over my floors & 2 pads are def not enough--they are a mess & washing (even bleaching) does not get them clean! I've gone back to scrubbing on my hands & knees; however today I wanted to do a quick clean up today in front of my door & now the stupid thing won't steam? Talk about frustrating! Colossal waste of money.......See MoreSteam Mop Thread 2011
Comments (23)I have a Eureka enviro steam mop that is about 10 years old. I really like it and it has certainly held up a long time. I only use it on my wood floors. I still do my tile floors on my hands and knees because the grout stays cleaner that way. Mopping tile floors pushes all the dirt into the gout I've also used my DIL's Bissell which you have to push a button to get the steam. I tended to get the floors too wet when I used the bissel so I prefer Eureka envirosteamer There is a review on Amazon under the Enviro steamer in which the reviewer has tested many of the mops. She actually tested water temperature and sharks is not hot enough to sanitize. The winner in her test was the Eureka envirosteamer . She said it was the sturdiest, had really hot water, the largest water tank and the longest cord . It is really interesting to read her review. Comments (7)It's a good idea to take your electric bills for a few months and see what your actual electric costs are. Just don't be fooled by the "per KWh" rate they have on the bill. You'll need to calculate it. You take your total electric bill, including all taxes, fees, discounts, etc and divide by the total number of KWh used. You should not include any credit from payments or refunds that were applied though. For instance, my total electric bill this month is $40.66 and I used 330 KWh. $40.66 divided by 330 equals 12.32¢ per KWh on this bill. When I used to monitor it, my bills ran about 14¢/KWH so I was a little, although pleasantly surprised when I saw the decrease. So for me to operate a 1500 watt appliance costs about 18.5¢ per hour. So if used the estimate above, my bill would go up $1.55 per month. With my bills, I'd probably notice it, especially in the spring and fall, but during the hottest summer and coldest winter I probably wouldn't notice it. But I'd still be aware of it since I'm pretty aware of energy useage. For someone who has an electric bill running hundreds of dollars, you'd never notice it. Also when you're computing appliance costs, remember not all appliances will be running full power all the time. Presumably the steam mop would be, but for instance something with a thermostat like an oven will turn the power on and off as needed to maintain. Just a tidbit of info for you if you're interested. Happy cleaning!...See Moresarahtaylor_nz_yahoo_com
