treasuretheday: "Now, bar soap is banned from our shower and we make sure to squeegee after each shower." Squeegee is a good idea, but banning bar soap from the shower? That deprives you of one of the best things about taking a shower -- one of the best things in life. Good bar soap is very high on the list of affordable luxuries, and the liquid chemical detergents in pump bottles are so stretch polyester! We gladly live with the chore of cleaning the shower door for the indulgence of lathering with a fragrant fatty soap. And, after rinsing off the rich soap lather, you bury yourself in a high loft 100 percent Egyptian towel: might I say, "Treasure the Day"?

Am I the only one who hasn't had success with the Dawn and vinegar? Our tub has build-up from the previous tenant who was elderly and took baths. The tile was spotless, because of the baths, but the tub bottom is rough. On the other hand, that's good for no slippage! I first saw the dawn and vinegar 6 months ago, and I see no difference in the tub and tiles. I can't get the taps clean, they have water spots. Funny, we have soft water too. The smell is very strong, I keep the door closed and the window open and it lingers in the apartment. Also there's no need to heat the vinegar from what I've read. I heated it once but not since. I am at work now and took a minute to check in. I put a second coat on the tan 'splotch' this morning, and I am anxious to see it when I get home this evening. I also got two new greens mixed in the little sample cans we have here. One I have not shown on this post. I was even tempted to do a soft peachy coral since I am 'splotching' all over the place, but someone here said the coral looked awful on her entry walls. I had another brain storm or fade ?? about doing the tan on top using a chair rail in white, and one of the greens on the bottom. I will check back later and post more photos. THANK YOU. Jane

What roarah wrote. Usually drain or sewer flies. Shower drains are common sites for habitation, sink drains less so. They tend to lay eggs in partially clogged pipes, they like the held moisture. Flies usually come out at night, the larvae can be seen in and around the plumbing fixture in question. They might have come out of the drain and found a nice moist area in the track. Or if the track is moist and gunked up, it's possible eggs could have been laid there. Easy way to diagnose is cover the shower drain with tape, sticky side down. Run lengths of tape across the drain with a small air gap between the lengths of tape. It might take a few days, but you may eventually see a fly stuck to the tape. Remediation is to snake the line to remove any buildup that is holding moisture. Flush well. Then I recommend a scour with salt/baking soda/vinegar, let it bubble and sit, or use an enzyme-based drain cleaner. Flush well. The goal is to scour the sides of the drain pipe clean to remove the moist gunk that they use for an egg laying site. Tape the drain again and see if any more flies show.
