I got my 'Moonshine' - how do I make/keep it white?
Comments (33)Mmontina, I like the light colour of your sans but it's no 'Moomshine'. It is a Sansevieria trifasciata Futura of some type. I have a Silver Laurenttii and when it pups, they look exactly like Moonshine until it gets a little bigger then the yellow margins show up. They get big and darken with age. Now my Moonshine and I have plenty. Stush...See MoreHow to keep whites white naturally
Comments (14)ebear1271 I am in NY...believe it or not, I found two new products, one is Charlies Soap. I just got it 3 days ago..( read about it on the laundry forum) and I have to say..much better than seventh generation. My clothes smell really clean..a natural real clean.. love it! The only thing with the charlies is, I am not too sure how good it is on getting stains out. I also bought their all purpose cleaner, they said to use it full strenght for laundry stains to pre treat..well it didn't work good for me at all..( couldn't get a chocolate spot out of my daughters white shirt from ice cream) but I have read how other people had better results. they have a web site, www.charliesoap.com they have a first time buyers discount and free shipping. a small 3lb bag does 80 loads Now I am waiting for Shaklee products..lol..I read about that also on the laundry forum. (there is a clickable link on that forum) I actually just ordered it, and did not get it yet. I heard that was a great product too... people have raved about it as well. I figured I will give each product an honest try and see which one I like better and thats what I will stick with. The reason I started using the seventh generation is, it is truly natural and that is not easy to find these days, so many products claim to be, but are not and it's the only one I found local. with the seventh generation, I had to add borax or arm and hammer super washing soda. With Charlies, I added nothing and the clothes were much cleaner. From what some have written , they like Shaklee products better. Shaklee also makes a nature bright to put in the wash, I heard this was wonderful, not only for the wash, but for other purposes also and I heard this zaps out any stain. I also ordered their all purpose cleaner basic H.. it's a very concentrated, one 16oz bottle will last forever, and has multiple uses. For example , for a window cleaner, you only need 2 drops per 16oz of water...( you can buy their set of 3 bottles to make your different cleaning mixes)So..needless to say, I can't wait to try their products. Charlies is all unscented, but Shaklee comes unscented and one with a mild soft scent. I ordered the unscented. You should go to both web sites and read them.. when I get mine, I will try it right away... I will let you know what I think in comparison... so hold off the seventh generation.. I promise, there are better products out there, and I am more than happy to have found them! (not that 7th generation is 'bad' , I just feel that there are other truly natural products out there that work much better) stay tuned...Ree...See MoreDo you like your white decorative hood? How's cleaning?
Comments (5)Yes, I was concerned about grime too. Like you, I wanted a hood that "rested lightly" in my kitchen, so I wanted it to match the cabinets. So I took a chance that it would stay good looking even after being lived in, and so far I'm very happy. I'm not the most enthusiastic housekeeper, so I try to clean as I go, and I think that using the ventilation blower really helps. I have a Vent-a-hood BH228SLD liner in a custom cabinetry hood. The liner is 28.375" wide by 19.25" deep, and the decorative hood adds about one inch all around. The hood is flanked by 12" deep upper cabinets. The blower is vented with an 8" round duct straight up and out the roof. I'm happy with the Vent-a-hood, but I should disclose that I didn't do much research on brand since the Vent-a-hood was what was offered by the cabinet company. My advice is whatever hood you chose, make sure to use it. The blower motor draws air at up to 600 cfm. I know there are those who post here and in the Appliances Forum who can give better advice that I can about this sort of thing. I relied on an article about choosing a range hood to select the cfm rating based on the potential btu output of my range. The decorative hood and cabs were made by Crestwood, Inc. in Salina, KS. They're an off-white color called Antique by Crestwood. I found it closely matches BM Cream Silk. We have a freestanding GE gas range, 5 burner, standard 30" width, 27" depth. Hope this helps! Comments (37)loribee, I finally got a chance to snap and upload some living room photos. Here is the after, which I just love: In the second photo, the Pier One table has the small lamp and Jerusalem Pottery on it. That, and the sofa pillows and rug are the only purchase I made. (sorry I didn't straighten up the throw pillows before taking the picture,) I am not going to "stick" something on the wall over the table. I am going to look over the next year or 2 and try to find something, maybe on vacation next year. Good news is the old boiler thermostat was there. Last year we put in new AC, and they moved all the controls upstairs. So I finally got to yank off and patch the wall where that was. It drove me crazy trying to hide it with something. I couldn't find any good pictures of the before. But before the TV was where the Pier One table is now. So the sofa was between the 2 french doors (and it was too long to look good there). And the leather club chairs and ottomon were on the front window wall. Very awkward to watch TV, because you were not facing it, and had to turn your head. It was hard to see the fireplace, and the room was lined up like a bowling alley. And it had a very large very burgundy rug that just sucked up the light from the north-facing room with 1 window. I honestly can't believe that this looks and feels and functions so much better just by making these small changes. And in case anyones is wondering, the cabinet holding the TV is a sideboard. We removed the lower drawer, drilled a hole through the back for cords, and put the cable box and internet through there....See Moregrainlady_ks
