Okay, after this dream I KNOW I need a mental vacation!
Comments (9)Good luck with the exam...the same thing has TOTALLY happened to me before too - I had spent the day studying with intermittent procrastination breaks on GW...when I finally went to bed at 3am, I had vivid dreams in which I was this overlord person, controlling a billion different culture requirements for the orchids at this computer, adjusting light, humidity, temperature, etc..and all these judges named after GW aliases were observing me and making sure I was doing everything perfectly. When I was younger, I would have this reoccuring dream after helping my mom buy bulbs in the fall...I would be at this amusement park playing games and winning tokens, which I would use at this huge vending machine that had every possible bulb you could think of...there were billions of buttons, each with it's own neat little picture of the bulb, the flower, the name and the cost. Things like crocuses would be really cheap, but things like amaryllis would cost a whole bunch of tokens...and I would always win the jackpot so I could choose any bulb I wanted....See Morepolypropylene rug 'disaster'
Comments (3)Sorry, I think in the US you call a "rug" what we in Australia would call a carpet. What I am talking about is a large rug or mat about 10 ft by 6 ft that goes on top of the carpet. I washed it by putting it on the patio then using a hose and washing liquid then hosing down to rinse.I then draped it over the washing line ( hills hoist type) until most of the excess water had dropped out then laid flat on the lawn to dry off. It dried quite quickly and seemed fine until I brought it in and replaced it on the living room floor. Then it became apparent that it was no longer "square" - it seemed to be sort of warped or buckled. The texture, colours etc seemed fine though. It is a fairly common type rug and I am pretty sure it is acrylic or polypropylene type fibre that is a cheap version of the proper wool oriental type rugs. I can re-stretch it back to shape by hand to get out the buckles (which I do a hundred times a day because it annoys me so but then a little later it creeps back to the original buckles. I have concrete base floors throughout - if I had wooden floorboards under the carpet I would be tempted to just nail the jolly thing down !...See MoreI just tested regular central vac and Hide a Hose system
Comments (66)The first one I had was Ricar when the house was being built. They came out about 4 times. It would work when they left, but still never enough power. Then I would have trouble with the hoses not going in or coming out. Then I got electrolux to come out and they put in all new ports or outlets, and new hoses. Still not enough power and the same with the hose problems. They did do a few things in the attic with the pipes. Now I have Drainvac which is the high powered unit I got the electrician to install. Great suction power but hoses still get stuff in the pipes. If I only had clear pipes I could see where the blockage is. We have a call into the head people at the original company that installed the pipes. It was a Hide A Hose system. We are hoping they will recommend someone who really knows how the install and service them. I have almost 9k in this system now and still not happy. My sister built a new house the same time and did not want it. She has a rainbow somebody gave her. She is laughing all the time about what I am going thru. I never had any trouble before until I got Hide a Hose....See MoreCleaning polypropylene rugs
Comments (33)graywings, I gotta tell you, I don't see how you were able to fit a 5 x 7.5 polypropylene rug in your washer, or any washer known to man for that matter. Maybe if I cut it into quarters? Not even then. You know when a few towels or throws can cause the washer to get off balance and rock? This would have caused some catastrophic bomb-worthy event. I washed it yesterday. First I hit it with the jet setting on my hose. I used a lot of water. It wasn't even wet underneath!!!! So more water. Then I used Scrubbing Bubbles (green cap) and an iron brush. Then plenty of rinsing. Finally it was completely saturated. I had planned to put it on 4 sawhorses to dry. That little 5x7.5 rug was so heavy with water that it couldn't be lifted. Not remotely. It had become THE THING!!! I managed to wiggle the flattened sawhorses underneath so it would be slightly elevated off the patio tile. Yesterday was sunny, warm and windy. I figured it was a good day for drying. Hah!! This morning I could tell some water was gone because it was slightly easier to move. I managed to get it on the standing sawhorses and water started seeping out. This is gonna take days. It has to be absolutely pristinely dry before I'll put it on my hardwood floor. Lesson: I will not do this again, at least not with a polypropylene rug that holds water like a sponge. So glad I didn't try this with my 10x13 rug. Ouch!!! After I moved the table and chairs and before I took it outside, I took a Before photo. It actually looked pretty good. I didn't see any dirt or grime come out. I suspect that rug was a lot cleaner than I'd imagined....See Morekoala_em
