We're currently on our third and I see about another 2 or 3 revisions before we're final.

I think we could spend an infinite amount of time, but it gets to a point where we're satisfied enough to move forward with the build.

We did no "major" revisions, but lots of small ones. I can say that I did have reservations about several areas in the house - areas I thought would be too small (kitchen, laundry) or too much open space (foyer). But there were several things I knew we wanted - open, lots of windows, catwalk overlooking main floor, all bedrooms upstairs, and (small) gymnasium downstairs. Having the things we wanted in our plan, we went ahead, and now have no reservations. All the places I wasn't sure about seem like they will work perfectly well. Good luck!

I can remember at least seven revisions before we broke ground. Anything from moving complete walls to reconfiguring an area. Now that I can walk through it. I am happy I made everyone.

A gazillion! But most of them were during the 5 years before we took my plan to a draftsman.

I revised it so many times that the architect said he thought I should buy stock in the company that owns "white-out" --- But, I think the more you finalize it on paper, the better off you are. Moving real walls is much more difficult. We have made several changes on the fly, and they were not well thought out, and in they end have been the most headache producing areas of the build.

At least 5-6! And then, during the framing, the builder tells me that the breakfast nook is too small the way it's drawn. So was the master bath. So we redid it in the field, and my amazing builders didn't charge me, but the city wanted the structural engineer to send a letter that he was ok with the changes, and that alone was $1500!! So seriously....measure out your spaces. It honestly looked great on paper, very proportional, but is much better now. I can actually fit a table into my breakfast nook, now!

We are on plan version 44. Most of those versions with us also came in the 5 years that we designed the house before we started building. Some changes were fairly major, others were a series of minor changes until I felt like I needed to save it as a new version number (easier to go back on a change if you saved the previous versions). It is very interesting to open all of the old versions and follow them thru the changes that we made. The final version is 1,000% better than the first versions we started with !!! Lots of great suggestions from GW building, kitchen, and bath forums thru the years.

Have built two houses - drew them both myself (architect made them official). The 2nd house had 48 drafts on my computer. albeit, many of them were me making minor tweaks and then saving each one seperately...and probably 2 versions from the architect.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY recco that you spend a couple hundred bucks on some basic software, or have your architect provide you some 3-dimensional walk throughs - as its really the only way to check sight lines throughout the house...

Seriously?! Hundreds, if not thousands. I'm designing my own place, and keep getting pulled this way and that by finances, building material choices, stuff I read, and my own rather capricious ideas. I think I'm pretty well settled in now, although it's still subject to minor tweaking, or even large changes if we have any more 'money events'.

Well, I feel even better now. We'll ask the designer if he can do a 3-D "walkthrough."
