Small, dead bugs all over window sills! Everyday! Help!!!
Comments (15)Any stored clothing, as in woolens? Could be carpet beetles. But that's just a guess until you can post close-ups. Adult insects go toward the light because they "know" it's the way out. The problem is that no one told them about windows....See Moreugh!! pantry bugs
Comments (34)Yes, Teresa, I think you found it. For me I think they came in in dried dates. But you never know. Really, though, trust me and do the thorough cleaning, especially vacuuming up high. If you do a halfhearted job and then see grubs crawling around in your food, you'll want to kill yourself. Don't ask me how I know! If there are little holes in a bag, be suspicious. Be very suspicious. They do indeed eat through plastic bags, even heavy ones. Obviously, throw out anything with moths, grubs, or frass. Anything else that is in cans, bottles, jars, or thick plastic, well sealed, just wipe down. Anything in bags, including plastic, or boxes, even if it's unopened, gets a 4 day vacation in Club Freezer. If you don't have freezer space, google for the oven method. A sense of humor is essential. One day when I did this, everything went wrong - one of those days where I would have been ahead if I'd never begun, you know? When I found myself sitting on the floor surrounded by a whole boxful of spilled cornmeal, I just started laughing. at some point, what else can you do? That's when I decided some wine was required before the fun task of gingerly opening each opened box and package of stuff, knowing that moths could fly out or grubs could be crawling in each one. Yes, it did happen with a few. And remember what I said about the wine and the present....See MoreFound A Great Site For Storage & Organizers!
Comments (45)Wow...how did I miss this thread till now??? I LOVE being organized, but one half of this family, not so much. My oldest DD was born with the gene, so it comes naturally for her. The youngest DD...not so much. It's like living with Felix and Oscar (for the **oldies** here who can remember the ODD COUPLE) hehehe. Frankly I love being organized cos it drives me crazy having to look for things. I'm just glad to know I'm not totally crazy for labeling my light switches. I use the P-touch labeler too. I never knew they made brass plates. When I labeled mine, I just used the small tape with small fonts. With one plate that has 5 different switches, it sure comes in handy. For my dear mother who loses EVERYTHING, I found the perfect plaque that reads "Organized people are just too lazy to look for things!"...See MoreStoring grains, pasta, beans, etc.
Comments (25)I agree with lazygardens. You shouldn't use these beans for human consumption. Those mold spores (mildew) can also be deadly aflatoxins. You need to take care storing grains/beans/seeds to prevent mold, so do some study on the subject to prevent so much waste. Another suggestion... Although they have a good storage time, I'd suggest you purchase only what you can reasonable use within a year or two. and keep it rotated. Old beans don't work well for food preparation, and take a lot longer to cook, which requires a lot more energy. If you do need to use old beans, they will cook faster if you mill the beans into bean flour before cooking. "Fresh" pinto beans will be a creamy tan color. The older they get the darker they will get, so that is one way to check age. -Grainlady...See Moregroomingal
