Shark Steam mop....easy or hard to push?

I bought a steam mop and there is quite a bit of resistance when pushing it around. Should it be easy or hard to push? Should the white cloth thing be damp whilst mopping? Am I doing something wrong?

I just got my steam mop yesterday. So many people on this site were raving about it so I had to get one. Paid $80 at Kohl's and this was 10% off. Quite a nifty little gadget. I found that when the pad got dirty it became alot harder to push so I changed the pad and it got easier. Where is a good place to buy pads? How much flooring can you do with one pad? The directions said to use distilled water does everyone do this? I didn't have any so I used tap water. I think I still like my hoover floormate better but the steam mop was alot quicker and easier to use. I think I will use the steam mop for touchups and still use the floormate on my thorough cleaning day.

It does get harder to push once the pads get dirty. BBB evidently sells the replacement pads 2 for $19.99. If you have one of their 20% off coupons, it's a good deal.

I've been using a Shark steam mop for a year now on my vinyl kitchen floor. I've been pleased with the fast steam production and quick drying, but I recently realized that after I'd been over an area with the mop, if I wiped the floor with a damp paper towel it was still dirty! Here I'd been patting myself on the back for doing a good job cleaning the floor, and come to find out it's not really clean. Is there such a thing as a steam mop that has a brush? My floor is a dark, multi-colored brick pattern that hides dirt excellently.

I have the Haan and have now used it on vinyl, ceramic tile and hardwood. It definitely worked well on the really old vinyl in our old house. It never looked clean, but it definitely felt much cleaner when I was done mopping with it. Our new house has ceramic tile in the kitchen and bathroom and recently refinished 50 year old red oak floors throughout the rest. I do think that I can do a more thorough job on my hands and knees with a bucket and microfiber towels, but the Haan does a pretty good job of cleaning the floors well enough to put my crawling baby on them and not cringe. The aforementioned crawling baby doesn't often give me enough time to get down on my knees with the bucket anyway, so the Haan is a good compromise for us. I really need a bunch of extra pads for it, though, as it only comes with 2. My only other complaint about it is that the head is rather tall which makes it hard to slide under furniture or cabinets.

First, let me say I am NOT an expert on this subject, so these are just my opinions formed from reading. Yes, there appear to be two levels of steam cleaners - the $100 and under range and the $300-500-$2,000 and up range. Many people on this forum are very happy with their Shark Steam Mops. It would seem that there is either something wrong with your machine or your technique in using the Shark. My guess would be the machine. These are inexpensive products mass produced in China, and some percentage of them are defective. Send it back and get a replacement. I have one of the higher end steam cleaners. The difference seems to come down to the temperature of the water, the size of the water tank, and the amount of steam vapor the machine puts out. For example, the Shark company doesn't give any information on the water temperature, while mine heats to 302 degrees in the tank. The cost of the higher end steamers seems to be in the heating element and the type of tank. I had not heard of the TANC system on the LadyBug, but found a page on the web that describes it: Our Ladybug includes a Thermal Accelerated Nano Crystal Sanitization (TANCS), a device that turns the minerals in tap water into nano-crystals. These crystals, when heated from 210Â°F to 220Â°F, are energized to provide micro-abrasion to break through dirt and bio-film layers on surfaces. The system acts as a poultice; as the heat expands and then dissipates, it pulls out dirt, oils, etc from surfaces onto our cotton towels. Within seconds, this system can deliver a deeper, cleaner, and sanitized surface. It makes surfaces look new again! Again, I'm not an expert, but that sounds like a description of steam cleaning, and every other steamer out there does the same thing - boil tap water and spray it out! So if LadyBug has a TANC system, then they all have TANC systems. The Allergy Buyer's Club site has lots of good info, but keep in mind that it is still a sales site. How is everyone's mops holding up? I bought the Shark Steam Blaster Jr. - Red (S3210R) Spent half the day Saturday steaming! LOL (This model is very similar to the Rainbow Steamer and Scunci) It worked well. A few minor complaints. The squeegee attachment was useless, water everywhere when I used it on bathroom mirror. I may try using it again on the inside of my shower doors. Many of the complaints I read was the amount of time wasted in refilling/waiting for reheat. I found that you can work out a routine to work around the waiting. The steam lasts for about 15-20 minutes. Then I'd wait 5 min. to cool, let out the steam and refill. I didn't mind the wait. Bathroom: Overall cleaning the bathroom was a success. Kitchen- WOW! I was pleasantly surprised that it was strong enough to remove baked on grease on my stove that I've been trying to remove for months! It took a little elbow grease. A little trick I used was to drop very small drops of dish detergent directly on the stain then blast it with the steam! BINGO! Beautifully cleaned the microwave, oven door, granite counters, sink, and tile floor grout! Unfortunately I could not get baked on grease off the bottom of my pans. - SO... I ordered from Walmart the SteamFast SteamMax Heavy-Duty Steam Cleaner. LOL! I'll report back when I receive it. And I really wish I had checked Sam's Club.com before ordering from Walmart, b/c they carry the Monster SC60 Steam Cleaner It seems a little bit more powerful than the SteamFast. I also think it depends on the flooring type. I have noticed the difference of ease on different flooring surfaces my self. I think itÂs the micro fiber pads. . Back when they made the pads out of a different material, it was much easier to push around with no resistance at all. After a few washes, I think it does get a bit easier.. Just think of the big muscles you will have! LOL

I use hot tap water, never used distilled. I also have the hoover floor mate. I think it does a great job as far as cleaning the floors. I use that once a week, then I steam clean the rest of the week. When I had my old shark, I hardly ever took out the floormate, with the new shark, I do not use it as much as I did my old one. They really changed them and I really don't think they are better "improved" but still a great thing to have..I love the idea it is a fast, effective way to wash the floors..my next venture is the Lotus sanitizing system, and I will also try their mop.

I've been using cold water as well, never thought about using hot tap water (duh). I have to do the floors today, so thanks for the tip.

I just bought the steam shark mop and it leaves a film on the surface. I have laminate flooring. Any body have experience using the steam mop on this type of flooring?? Is it damaging the surface or is it from a build up of soap and gunk??? Any suggestions?

It is a build of soap residue coming to the surface. It may take a few times, but you will get it off. The steam mop is only "hot water". keep going over it and you will have squeaky clean floors.

Keep seeing that the film on the floors is old stuff and it will go away. I have used the steam mop four times and still am getting a film. Getting very frustrated. Really like the job it does, but with the sun shining through onto floors, they just look awful! Do I still keep trying?

I am a 70 year old woman with arthritis. I can't get down on the floor to scrub. My husband bought one of the Shark steam mops and I love it. I finally have clean floors again. Even I can push it around my kitchen without problems. Now if only I didn't have trouble with it getting into corners. It is really hard to use a toothbrush in the corners.

I have had the shark steam mop for 10 months. It is getting harder and harder to push around. My back aches for two days afterward. I don't know if not enough steam is coming out or what!
Does anyone else have this problem?
I use distilled water and follow all directions for cleaning the pads.

OK, two months later...I feel like a dodo. I was having trouble pushing my mop around. Well, when I mopped I wasn't unwrapping the cord all the way from its holders on the handle (because I don't like to trip over cords)...so it was never totally unwrapped. One day I unwrapped it, and VOILA! much more steam and the darn thing zipped around the floor. YAY!
