Rock Easter Eggs

Hello Everyone! My wife Carol and I have REALLY enjoyed seeing your Easter decorations! YOU INSPIRE US!

Carol gave me a collection of rock eggs for Christmas. (You can see my Garden Junk post below for the entire collection.) I placed the eggs in a barbed wire basket. I think they go well with the basket. It's a bit rustic, but I wanted to share my country Easter decoration. :o) I placed the basket on our country, covered porch but will keep it in our kitchen the rest of the year. :o)

Those look great in the wire basket Kirk! I remember the wonderful collection from the GJ post before....looks so inviting!

Your eggs are awesome and I would display like you show here in the basket. There is no way I would use them outside as beautiful as they are. I love it that your wife was listening!!! I too think they would be beautiful on your coffee table. Be sure to let us know what you do with all of them.

Wow, there is a lot of differing information on this plant! No where did it say it was toxic, so I think you are safe there. And I found this: A fact sheet published by the University of Florida's Cooperative Extension Service explains the differences between this plant, S. ovigerum, (grown as an inedible ornamental plant) and white fruit varieties of S. melongena, which are edible: Fruit color: S. ovigerum fruit is white when immature but turn yellow as they mature. S. melongena fruit remains white at maturity, some with a hint of green. Fruit size: S. ovigerum fruit typically remains small, resembling their namesake hen's eggs in size and shape. S. melongena white varieties grow to typical eggplant size at maturity, significantly larger than the ornamental fruit.

This reminded me of a recipe I have had for many years, and somehow had forgotten about. I searched and found it in my documents/recipes folder. I'll definitely be using it again at Easter, and hopefully more often now that I've been reminded of it. Petit Pois Salad I pound frozen tiny peas, raw 1/3 cup chopped celery or water chestnuts 4 hard cooked eggs, chopped 3 dill pickles, chopped 1 small onion, chopped 1/8 tsp pepper 1/4 cup mayonnaise 1 tsp prepared mustard ½ tsp hot sauce Parmesan cheese, optional Combine first 6 ingredients. Combine rest of ingredients and blend the two mixtures. Garnish with parsley. Cheese may be mixed with the peas. If so, use 3 Tbls. or sprinkle on each serving. Attractive served in a tomato shell.

Hi Kirk, your eggs are really neat, but I'm loving that barbed wire basket--never seen one like it. They go together very well. Have you ever seen the wreaths made from barbed wire? I used to want to make one so badly but never did get the materials together to do it. ;o( Glad you came by to share with us. Luvs

Hey Kirk, I'm so glad you had time to pop in here! If Jeanne sees that basket, she may be headed your way, so you might want to hide it. LOL. Tho I wouldn't blame her, that is one really neat basket! Those eggs are just right for it.

You and Carol are the perfect team in your crafts and decorating and thrifting. Wish I could send my DH to you for some lessons. LOL.

The eggs are perfect for the wire basket and the watering can adds the right touch of Spring.

Hi Kirk, and welcome to our forum! I love your vignette there of the rock eggs in the basket sitting next to the watering can on a country bench. You should frame that first pic. I hope you both join us here more often, as you both obviously have some great ideas yourselves.

The eggs are simply W O N D E R F U L and that barbed wire basket is equally so altho I think it might be 'painful' to make. LOL Can't look at anything without trying to figure out how to make it.

I think those eggs are a great home decor accessory for any time of the year and would also look good in a large wooden bowl. Maybe an antique dough bowl could be a gift for next Christmas. ;-)

I wouldn't put those eggs outdoors, they are too valuable. If you are interested in knowing what type of minerals they are here's a good site.

Carol and I were antiquing today and saw several old, wire egg baskets. They were a bit pricey but we'll keep looking so we can place some of our rock eggs in one! :o) Bear Hugs! Kirk

What a great vignette with those beautiful eggs. I love how they are displayed in the wire basket.

I would definitely keep them out year round.
