$ saving tactic pays off again!

When other members ask about the best money saving ideas when building a house, I've replied a few times about this method. Every couple of weeks we hit the local Lowes/Home Depot/Menards circuit. We live between 3 cities, so we have around a dozen stores to choose from. We mostly mix it in with regular shopping/errands. We have a running list of things we need to finish our project. Originally the list was for building the house, but we moved in back in October. Now we're finishing the walkout. We just peruse the aisles looking for clearance deals on things that we still need. We saved thousands on lighting and faucets.

Well yesterday we found the deal to end all deals. We need a single sink for the bathroom. We saw that the identical unit we used in the master bath was on clearance! We found some helpful young fellow to confirm that the display unit was the last one, and to then take it down for us. Our new American Standard cadet lavatory was $99, marked down to $22! He then told us since it was discontinued (now Cadet III), it was only $1! When we checked out, it ended up being only 1 cent. Honestly- we paid a penny for the sink.

This trounces our previous best deal of $14 for the $297 foyer fixture. It really pays to visit these stores regularly if you have the time and know what you are going to need.
