Shower where glass doesn't get wet?
Comments (13)I never have to clean my shower...glass, walls, floor or chrome fixtures. I use a daily shower cleaner "Clean Shower" which prevents build-up from hard water and soap scum. I've used this stuff in showers for over a decade. My "new" shower is 1.5 years old and I only plan to scrub the grout in the floor just before I re-apply sealer in 3 years. I have porcelain tile, regular type grout, and patterned glass. This product leaves a slight film on the surface that washes away with water the next time you shower. You can see it on clear glass but not on patterned glass. So if you want crystal clear glass you need to squeegee it, but you can still spray it on your tile and floor. (not natural stone). -Babka Here is a link that might be useful: Here is how it works...See Moreshower glass? Frost verses Clear
Comments (22)If your husband is completely against the idea, there are more attractive opaque glass options than the old fashioned "frosted" glass. You can google for examples. I have also seen just a swath of opaque design which masks the "private" body areas :-) However, I think frosted glass is a poor choice since it completely hides any design you've installed in the shower and also closes off the space visually. I don't know any modern remodeled shower that doesn't strive for the ideal of an attractive shower with a frameless glass enclosure. Hell some people are so fixated on it that they upgrade to super clear glass so that there is no distortion of the color of the tile work. I really associate frosted glass with old builder grade tub/shower types of tubs where there is an acrylic wall in lieu of tile - or the functional equivalent with a prefab acrylic shower with prefab walls. I have never seen it in a modern home where someone has spent money to actually tile the shower :-). In older homes with attractive tiles there was generally a shower curtain so the interplay between the curtain and the tiles typically provided visual interest. A shower curtain kept closed all the time would be typically used if the shower wasn't attractive - i.e. to hide it....See MoreGlass Shower door for Kid Bathroom
Comments (6)You could ask the contractor to make sure that the wall is built correctly to be able to support a future glass door, but use a shower curtain temporarily. We did that in one bathroom, and installed the door later. We also extended the waterproofing out onto the floor for a bit. What kind of set-up do you have? A tub/shower combo; stand-alone shower? How wide is it? I personally don't like glass if the shower is narrow....See MoreGlass Shower door
Comments (2)Let me ask you this: you say you'd love NOT to have a glass door. I'm with you on that, as I don't enjoy cleaning shower glass. Have you considered a shower curtain instead of a door? I like that they bring in softness and color, and they go into the washing machine. You could try the shower curtain for less than $50, and if you don't like it you could always add the glass door later....See Morefriedajune
