You're welcome, bromfriends! I'm glad you all enjoyed. Thanks for the kind comments and slobbering. Also, thanks to Lisa and J+A for the heads up on the supposed Vr. Pahoa Beauty being more likely King David Kalamahoosywhatsit. I'm not sure where Bruce got his from...or who imported it with the wrong name. He was assured it was the real Macoy. So back to the unknown drawing board - again! (grumble, grumble) And Gonz - you stop kicking that Till rauhii of yours, and behave yourself! 1) fundamentalists all have their own private heavens. each group gets to sit safe and sound behind their own walls, with their own kind, and no one else ever invites them to the parties. it's doubtful, however, that your 'christian' associates will even get that far, but will be left to cool their heels in the hallway outside St Peter's offices until one of the people they 'denied heaven' happens to wander by, and invite them in. like a deity capable of inventing both the carbon atom and the duck-billed platypus needs to stick to the writings that mankind has ascribed to it, no matter how nonsensical? heaven, for most, is getting to choose where you go, and what you do once you are free of your body. hell, for some, is having to choose what happens to themselves once their illusions are finally wiped away. parents tend to keep an weather eye on their kids for years afterwards- in my own family, it's long been a tradition that the spirits can see 'out' through mirrors, glass, and other reflective surfaces, and that's where the jewish tradition of covering mirrors during mourning really comes from- not to restrain our mortal vanity, but to give ourselves the privacy to greive for loved ones who don't want us to cry for their sakes, since they're just fine, eh? :) I'm sorry about your friend's daughter.... the paranoia could be anything from drug abuse to not taking meds she should be on, or taking drugs she shouldn't be on, to having an insane family that needs to use euphamisms like 'not of sound mind' to describe someone who's walking a line between profoundly depressed, and outrightly paranoid.

Thanks for all of the nice encouragement. There are several areas of the kitchen which I feel pretty strongly about, and then there are the ones I am uneasy about. I think the Marcolo / rhome concern of too many steps for something as simple as a bowl of cereal is certainly worth considering, and I am going to work to tighten up those functions which are common for us. I have one of those little "planning desks" in my current kitchen and at any given time it is piled with papers, bills, kids pemission slips, and mail. If I have somebody coming over, I quickly dump it all into a basket which quickly becomes a black hole! My little room behind the cooktop (Rachel's space) is to allow my mess, keep it close by, but keep it out of the kitchen area. I know this little space will be a favorite, and it is really there only to handle a roofline issue. The home planning area, is where I was thinking the kids could do homework --- they would be close by, but not in the loud main room --- I knew it would be darkish, and would have no windows, but that is a bit by design as the computer will not have a glare and the printer and all of that stuff can be tucked away in here. The butler's pantry will likely house the more formal china, and it is where guests can help themselves to wine, beer, drinks and a food buffet, though I think it will mainly function as a bar during parties, and food will likely be on the island. My thinking is the butler's pantry is a good connector to the dining room, and the great room, kitchen and porch. The corridor is wide enough for some milling around, and there will be a sink in there, but the related clean-up area will really be on the island. I'm OK with that. One of the other things that you've all made me consider, is the steps to do things like get cereal. What if the 2 cabinets flanking the kitchen table have a fridge and freezer drawer, coffee maker, mugs, sugar bowl, glasses and bowls on one side. On the other side, what if they have 2 big drawers (size of fridge drawers) filled with the cereal boxes. Silverware is another issue. Would it make sense to keep the daily silverware over by the table? If so, couldn't I just take the silverware basket out of the dishwasher and take it (or have the kids take it) over to that area to empty. In that case, a daily meal (cereal and coffee, and juice) would all be handled right there at the table. Clean-up would involve setting the dishes through the little pass through (I could make this a door, but I think I like the pass-through) and then loading the dishwasher, etc. Not too bad, it only involves the breakfast and clean-up area. Now, things are more complicated for other meals. Setting the table would mean getting plates, etc. out of the "dish pantry" area. In my little baking area, I think the comments are totally on --- I think I need to put uppers here for baking supplies. That would allow me to put drawers below for things like mixing bowls, pans, mixers, etc. The toaster could also go out here as well. I know I have lots lots more to figure out --- but thanks for all of the help thus far. Marcolo, thanks so much for the design and reclaimed wood, etc. encouragement. I have always loved these things and sometimes people look at me like I'm crazy, but I really love them. Good to know that I'm actually going to be current for a little while at least!

I believe that, after death, we are reunited with all our family,friends and loved ones who have gone before. And we are allowed to see the face of God (including Jesus, if you are of the Christian faith. Sorry if I offended anyone.) As far as Hell, I don't believe it exists. The bible if full of stories how God created us, hears our prayers, and is merciful. Well, I love my kids very much. No matter how much they disobey, I still love them and could not bear to send them to eternal pain and suffering. Hence, I think Hell is an invention of Man.

I would be there for hours! My friend bought 1 plate!!! She spent 14 cents....such restraint!! Of course she has 300 Peggy Karr plates. If you have never seen them, Google it, they are very beautiful!!

I wish that I had all those shelves as my own personal "dish closet" and whenever I wanted to do up a new table, I would have all those dishes to choose from! That truly is "dish heaven" Kathleen!

I checked out the Peggy Karr plates...WOW! To have 300 of those would be fantastic too and from what I saw, they cost more than 14 cents!

I'm curious... I saw "Luminarc" plates that used to be cheap items in my country but aren't any more since the introduction of the Euro. Are they expensive in your country?

Good grief! I think they have enough dishes for the whole state of Missouri! LOL Maybe I'd better check out the location of that place, might get close to there on one of our motor home trips to see our relatives in Missouri. ;o) Luvs

Welcome Juicyfruit, we like dishaholics here. Our Jim occasionally 'suggests' a 12-Step Program for Judith but he can't get her interested. LOL.

OMG - I am in a whole lot of trouble - I just did a google search - I have one in Wilmington NC - about 2 hours east of me and one opening in Greensboro NC in April about 1 1/2 hours away - seems like I have a couple of road trips ahead of me and an empty wallet when I am done......

I have absolutely NO will power...I would leave with bags and bags of stuff I am sure...My family KNOWS I am hopeless...it is probably a good thing we don't have anything like that around here (that I know of anyway).

We have one about 40 minutes away in Alabama. Rarely do I go without buying something. They have a lot more than just dishes, they have garden decorations, silk flowers, candles, linens, rugs, lamps, and so much more. The prices are wonderful, I recently bought large tassels for only $3.00, and all of the dinner glasses were less than a dollar. I use to pick up teacups and the saucers (regular china like Noritake) and use them for birdfeeders and spent less than $1.25 for the two items. OK, since I am going to be in Alabama today, I might as well stop by - I am sure they have something I really need.

B, bring your camera! This gal says the store she went to used to be a HOME DEPOT. Now that's a big store!! Is yours that big? I never saw so many aisles of dishes!!!

I know Sandi has one near her in NC, not sure if it as big as this one...

These Lion's Head bowls were 4.99 in WmSonoma, I bought them when they had 50% off. They were 99 in Old Time. Exactly the same, ??, but who cares!!

Yep, Potato Leek Soup..usually put bacon on top, but it was meatless Fri!

Looks delicious as usual Kathleen! Love the Shamrock placemats as well this time of year.
I wonder if we have an Old Time Pottery store anywhere in Canada. And to find out, they carry other decorating items besides dishes....it would be like a one-stop shopping centre. That is just crazy how cheap the dishes are there especially when I compare them to our Canadian prices ...but I often find that when one of you posts what you paid for something.

Paintingfool, you are so lucky to have one so close by...sounds like you are smart and show some restraint though...I'd be on a buying frenzy!
