Does your Kitchen Aid Paneled DW stick out?

I thought I had finally made the decision to go with the KUDE60 Kitchenaid dishwasher with a custom panel and went to a showroom tonight to check it out one last time- UGH!

The salesman informed me that the unit is 24" deep so with a standard cabinet, it will not be flush & will protrude about an inch.

Is this true? Will I really notice??

Opinions and experiences would be greatly appreciated (as well as pictures if you have them) so I can make a decision.

BTW, he was REALLY trying to sell me a Miele Optima- which I had cut from the list because of the drying isssue.

Yes it will stick out. I had a paneled DW that was flush with the cabinets of 24" depth. I just got the KUDE70 SS model and it sticks out the depth of the door from the cabinet fronts, but it is still under the granite overhang so it looks fine and in fact I can see the lights in the top this way which is very helpful. But if we had used a panel model it would look bad in my opinion and would stick out way beyond the other cabinets, probably at least an inch and a half. I suggest either no panel or going with a European brand that is not as deep.

I was worried about this so I pulled out all the cabinets on that wall about 1.5". My DWers will be installed soon.

I'VE DONE THAT WITH MINE! I removed the silverware basket from day one. There's still a small corner caddy if need it. I put larger items in it. Removing the silverware basket opens up enough space for a larger frying pan or 9x13 pan (with room left over). I can't believe how much space this dw has. I found yet another tine (on the middle rack) that drops down for more customization. Putting your silverware on the top rack is a little slow at first as you learn what can go where but it doesn't take long to figure it out. The other day I placed a large splatter screen (it doesn't fit well in the bottom because I've dropped the middle rack due to my extra tall drinking glasses) on top of my silverware. I've had the smaller measuring cups up there too, so don't think of it as JUST for silverware and cutlery. I have the KUDE60 model. I needed black. The KUDE70 is ss and paneled AND 5 dB quieter! I think everything else is the same. If I could change one thing, it would be that the plate spacings on the bottom rack were a tiny bit closer together. I know a lot of people use larger stoneware plates but I use the thin Corelle plates. I could get more in there if the spacing as a bit tighter. Other than that, I'm extremely pleased with it :) Oh, also you can remove one or both of the cutlery racks. It's split in two. If you needed something really tall in the middle you can take out one of the racks and use the corner caddy for more silverware space if needed.

I am today going out to buy a new dishwasher to replace my 6 year old KA that has been repaired twice already. Repair guy doesn't even recommend fixing it anymore. It is a KUDP01IL. It may be a lower end. I also have a 6 year old KA clothes washer that rusted terribly was almost completely rebuilt by KA. The service man-sent by KA themselves, also found something else majorly wrong when he was replacing the drum, outer cabinet, and lid that had rusted after just over 3 years. My KA dryer, 5 years old, has had the humidity sensor replaced twice-once because it was snagging the clothes, and another time it just stoped working. I just had it repaired again because some emergency gas shut off kicked in for no reason. Repairman said it was very clean of lint and should not have kicked in. I can say I have had outstanding service with KA as they replaced the sensors within days and the clothes washer was out of warranty when they paid for the rebuild. My repair man says most if not all brands are not built to last as most parts are made overseas. He says Americans want high end things at low prices and this is the only way to get them, but we sacrifice durability for price. I don't know how true that is but I do tend to believe that. As for now, I am not even considering a KA or Whirlpool(same company). Probably will go Bosch. Only problem being there are few who service Bosch around my parts.

Mine does not have the removable racks, and the pot scrub cycle does not require anything additional, though I rarely use it. Hope this helps!

Not certain about your model, but our KA dishwasher vents out the top. It came with a moisture barrier that can be applied to the underside of a laminate counter top if required. Our counters were granite, so we didn't need it. If I had laminate counter tops, regardless of how the D/W vents I would attach some form of shield, i.e. a thin sheet of aluminum, to the underside of the counter top prior to installing the dishwasher

Thank you for the quick replies. We are meeting with the KD on Saturday to finalize cabinet details so I am not sure if pulling the cabinets out a little is an option but I wil check.

Tarheel- I know the inch and a half will drive me crazy so I guess I will start comparing the bosch and mieles again.

I have a Miele Optima which I am about to replace with a KA KUDE60. According to their spec sheets, the Miele is 22 7/16'' deep, and the KUDE60 is 25 1/4'' deep. The handle on the KUDE60 adds another 2 1/4''. Since the DW is right in my prep area, the protruding handle is a concern. After discussing options with my GC, we are going to make a recess in the wall behind the DW so it can be pushed in to counter depth. This appears much easier than configuring deeper cabinets.

Thanks for giving me with another option to consider... I will definitely mention it to our builder to see if it could work.

I really did like the KitchenAId DW & since I have small children I was trying to avoid the drying issue with the european models. I hate the idea of paying $2000 for a DW that is filled with lots of wet sippy cups each morning!

I just became aware of this issue as well. I am looking at a Fagor induction on their website and was impressed with the specs for their dishwashers also. My KD mentioned the depth issue and I double checked the Fagor and found theirs to be less than 24" so they should also be flush with cabinets.

I am still trying to find somewhere locally to actually look at one, but Fagor in general seems to have a good rep for quality and makes many commerical dishwashers.

My cabinet guy is here right now putting in the KA 70 panel ready.
We had discussed this issue earlier so it has room to be "pushed back" but, he just showed me a vent?? on the right side of the DW sooo it can't go back too far as it will cover this vent.
Anyone know about this????? HELP.
I'm off to read the manual right now.
