Siding - James Hardie Stria cladding

We are finalizing the exterior and have not been able to find a brick that I can love, so thought I might try siding, since I can paint it. I would also, like many of you, have a stone base. I have done alot of research, and really like the James Hardie ScyonÂ StriaÂ cladding product. Has anyone used this as of yet? I can't find any complaints anywhere.

I think it is factory finished in which case you would not be able to paint it. It is very tall shiplapped siding so it will look considerably different from traditional siding.

Hi MACV, hope all is well. It is a primed material, with the recommendation to apply 2-3 coats of paint. It has a 25 year manufacturer warranty and a paint manufacturer will give it a 15 year warrenty with 3 coats of paint. It is a 12 inch board which gives it a contemporary look.

I am only looking at this product because the Hebel stone that was in the original plans finally just made it thru the estimator (not sure why he never caught it) and it is going to be another $20k, so I am trying to find some less costly options, don't want to go with full brick. Wanted to see if anyone out there has used it yet.

Thank you groveraxle, these are really helfpul! Do you think it looks weird with only some shutters? I do but that's because it is just different to me. JudyG, I LOVE the white. Husband hates it. It's the one color he says absolutely not to. :( Not sure if it's worth pushing him on it. I will show him the pictures, because I think white looks the best. PPF - No I do not want trendy, I want something that will stand the test of time. I had not considered getting primed siding and painting it ourselves mostly because I think that would add significant cost and I think the pre-painted colors are supposed to hold up better. But it would certainly be easier to find a color I like.

James Hardie siding- Arctic White or Cobblestone?

Depending on lighting they seem to change color so much. In some lighting the Cobblestone looks off-white, in other lighting more of a tan. Arctic White can look like an off-white/light gray and sometimes bright white. If these are the only 2 choices, I think I'd make the decision based on what time(s) of day you're likely to be looking at your house from outside. :-) Without knowing the architectural style of your house, or where you're located, it can be challenging to make any recommendations... Would you consider a color, maybe, instead of a neutral?

Hi, I need to decide on a siding material for a new build in the mountains of Colorado. I want it to be low maintenance and resistant to fire. High winds are also a concern as we regularly get 100 mph winds up here. I love the look of real wood, especially the Drift line by Thermory, but the maintenance is a concern. I would love something that looks like wood, so that is why Fiberon caught my eye. Has anyone used Fiberon, or Drift for cladding? I have used stained Allura siding in the past, but that process was rather lengthy and delayed the project. Thanks for any advice!

Hunter Green or Imperial Green James Hardie Siding

Unfortunately Houzz's exterior search engine is not working now, because there is a beautiful dark green house there. It seems that the actual colors available in an area are much more limited than the vast array of colors in their color chart. Have you checked what is available? My two top colors are Evergreen Forest and Imperial Green. I also like Oregon Trail. Forever Green has a gray brown cast to it and I never saw Hunter Green look like black. This is pretty, but not the one I'm looking for. This is Essex Green from Benjamin Moore, but It might have been custom mixed.
