Thermador Double Wall Ovens and Rangetop

I am trying to decide on appliances for a house we are having built and have sort of narrowed it down to Thermador appliances. Can you tell me what you think of your Thermador Double Ovens and Rangetop or cooktop. The ones I have picked out are the MED302ES Double Convection ovens and the PCG366E Rangetop. I liked the Miele Double Ovens but they only have the menu driven ones and they are almost $2000 more and with all the other expenses that come with having a house built I'm trying to not spend so much.

I am also looking at buying the single convection oven by Thermador, I think it is the ME302. I hope to hear some positive comments here as well. Consumer reports ranked a C series Thermador oven at the top of their list. I can't match the model number in consumer reports to anything on their Website. Good Luck.

I have had the 272 ES for the last5 months and I 'm still not entirely sure...I had a Gaggenau previously and loved it, but this time I wanted a double oven and the Gagg was simply too much money [particularly here in Canada) plus the gaggenau reps was singularly uninterested in us so I went elsewhere.
I love the looks and mostly am very happy..my irritations?
1. With the Gagg I could convection broil at lower temps than the Thermador which was better for cooking fish.
2. This oven takes a long time to heat up,and when it says it's ready it still has a way to go...not quite enough for me to bounce it but enoughfor me to have a thermometer in the oven all the time and not believe the beeps that tell you it's up to temperature.In the past I barely preheated but now it's a must.
3. This was only yesterday..I tried to use the probe to cook a turkey as I thought it would be less hassle than my usual method...and ended up with grossly undercooked turkey...so on my to do list is call thermador.
4. Don't wipe the finger marks off the control panel as you make the last "cleanup" of your kitchen before your guests arrive!...if you do you'll change all the settings and lose your times! Live and learn.
It is so much easier having two ovens though that I'm still pleased overall but for what I paid I had expected better temperature control

These are the exact 2 ovens I have narrowed it down to! I've heard that Thermador has fixed its old oven problems (missing insulation) -- but I am still a bit wary and it is more expensive. On the other hand, I love the look of the Kitchenaid KBES209BSS, but I have seen people posting reports that there is a long pre-heat time and loud fan. My current GE Profile oven (which just died) takes a while to heat, and the fan is fairly loud, so I am wondering if the Kitchenaid is about the same -- which would be acceptable. I really like the look of the Electrolux, but was warned off them because of poor customer service. Did you get any of these? And what do you think so far?

We installed the Viking DEDO530 (the 30" version of what you are considering) last December. To date we have had no issues, used the self-clean once so far. We are very happy with this oven. Holds temp well and bakes even. This model does beep when it reaches the desired temp. I found no real issues in my search of Viking electric ovens. Most of their issues dealt with refrigerators and their gas ovens. We did have to deal with customer service once and they did help us. The installers broke the bottom door glass and were just trying to replace the glass which was not to our satisfaction. CS arranged for us to get a whole new door. Not sure what size cabinet your current oven is in, but we replaced a 27" oven that was in a 30" cabinet with this 30" oven. Pretty sure I would have been able to get the 30" Elux in as well as it only required a slightly larger opening. Most people put an oven in a cabinet that is 3" larger, but it is possible to match some ovens (depends on the oven trim) in the same size cabinet. Hope this helps.

I try to buy US Brands (when I can) but this is sad!!! Do a goggle search for "Consumer complaints about Thermador Ovens", then do one for "Consumer Complaints about Miele Ovens" sad sad sad, that's why I ended up with a Miele Dishwasher.

First, what has led you to consider these three ovens? I am not a big fan of the Dacor Discovery. I had the range and the wall oven and they did make improvements since I had mine but there are still reasons I would not buy. Read the use and care manual of any oven you are considering because it may have little quirks that you may or may not consider important. Dacor Discovery IQ use and care manual One thing is that this oven has a very intense preheat. You cannot put food in until the oven is preheated per the manual. After the oven preheats, it goes to a maintenance mode that oscillates the element on and off. In theory this is to keep a very even temperature but if you open the oven frequently or put a big load of cold food, you can trigger the fast preheat again so you have to take your food back out. If the preheat does not come back on the temperature can drift down about 5OF because it continues to oscillate to "maintain". Most ovens would only allow about 25F swing on either side of the set temperature and many ovens now only allow 5-10F swing. This may also preclude a delay bake in some ovens designed like this or in some the delay bake stops the fast preheat and then it can take 45 minutes to come to temperature using the maintenance cycling which might not be a very good thing. They talk about being able to control the oven with your phone but if it has to preheat, who is there to take the food in and out? My current oven has a fast preheat that is optional but even if you use it, you can still put some foods in without burning. For any baking of cakes, etc, you need to preheat any oven for at least 20-30 minutes after the oven indicates it is at temperature so that it can stabilize. from the manual "The preheat cycle rapidly brings the oven chamber up to the proper cooking temperature. Wait for the oven to finish preheating (Insert Food appears on the display) before placing the food in the oven. Excessive browning will occur if you put the food in the oven while it is preheating." "If you increase the temperature by more than 50°F (28°C), to reach the new temperature, the oven needs to preheat. Remove the food from the oven to prevent excessive browning." The same would occur if you allow the heat to drop by 50F by opening the door frequently as in cookie baking. A couple other things would be that there are vent holes on the inside of the door facing up that are positioned so that crude can easily get into those holes pulling food in and out. See page 7. I did not like the lighting at all. It was too dark. The Dacor wall oven I had put out much more heat than the one I have now.

I had the Thermador gas rangetop with 4 burners and the grill and I loved it. The star pattern for the burners had a great flame distribution along the bottom of the pan. And the grill was fantastic with its adjustable heat. FWIW, the clicking on extra-low flames (that most people are annoyed with) on the burners never bothered me.

I have the Thermador SGS304CS. I would NOT recommend this cooktop to anyone. Because it is a four burner 30", the new redesign with the elevated knobs should not be in this position. I had the model before this one and the knobs were vertical on the right of the burners. If you use a large frying pan on the high BTU burner, the knobs melt. The inside of the raised area is discolored from high heat. No amount of cleaning fixes this. Also within 2 days of getting this appliance, the black grates, were scratched from the pans moving on them. The black came right off and now all you see is silver under the black. What a mess !!! My stove always looks a mess. The model they made before this one, had rubber feet you had to install yourself on the bottom of the grates. With the high BTU, they melted every 30 days. They sent me one replacement, then said I would have to pay $16.00 for a set of four tiny little rubber pieces. Without those pieces the metal would scratch the stainless steel it sat on. That equated to $16.00 every 30 days or so. So much for customer service. Beware
