Tub/Shower - Need Advice - Pic

This tub/shower combo is a hallway bath and needs to be replaced. It is all tile. I think my options are:

1. Replace with all tile. My guess is that it has a hot mop and mortar bed underneath. Does that sound right? Is this type of tub/shower hopelessly out-of-date? We have liked it over the years as the tub was great for the kids when little yet made for a decent shower as they grew older.

2. Replace with a drop-in tub and tile around it. Is a cast iron or acrylic material better for this situation? Also, the alcove is 66 1/2 inches stud-to-stud. Is this enough room for a 65 or 66 inch tub?

I would love to make it shower only at this point, but it is the only tub in the house, so it needs to be a combo.

What do you recommend?

Looks like you could convert it into a larger shower, but if this is your main bathroom, you will probably want a tub if you're considering selling the house in the future. Personally, I've never seen one of these, but it has possibities.

It's actually the hallway bath, but the master bath has just a large shower, so I feel that I need to keep some kind of tub in the hallway bath.

Anyone out there re-tile one of these?

I would urge you to be really careful with jet tubs. I have had nothing but problems with my Bain Ultra jet tub. My tub would turn on randomly throughout the night, so I would be in bed and hear air rushing from the tub in the middle of the night. Within a year of installation the lights on the keypad stopped functioning. Called their customer service department and they will not honor their warranty. Apparently their electronics and keypads are poorly constructed. The Bain employee I spoke to suggested I replace the tub altogether.

Need advice with venting/tub trap/shower trap

The guy at Home Depot just proved to you why he is stocking shelves instead of working in the plumbing trade. Using an 1-1/2" trap as suggest by the Home Depot clerk would be two code violations. 1. A shower is required to have a 2" trap and a 2" drain line & 2. The drain basket in the base of the shower already has a 2" discharge and code strictly prohibits reducing the size of a drain line in the direction of flow. You may need to consult a framer about sistering that joist so you can notch it. The plumbing code prohibits any notches on the top of a floor joist in the center 1/3 of the overall span. On the outer 1/3 of the joist you may notch to a depth not to exceed 1/6 the height of the joist. (a 2x10 could be notched a maximum of 1-1/2").

Advice needed for a good new tub and shower faucet for a rental, so reasonably sturdy but not super expensive. Delta? And where do I buy it? This is not a high end rental but should appeal to young professionals. Also, does 400.00 for labor sound reasonable in a high price area?
