i think it's easy to build, from parts, all from one supplier.

1.) any thermostatic

2.) normal for tubs

3.) will mean e,g, your hose starts at an "elbow" in the wall (high up the wall) and the handshower gets holstered in a handshower holder (also high).

4.) normal for modern looking trim

#3 can be done with any bath filler, just add a diverter somewhere in the pipes before it reaches the main spout. I prefer diverters that allow you to split the water stream and send water to both locations, although some are all one or all the other. Some valves are designated 3 way or 4 way output which allows for 2 or 3 water sources respectively.

a thermostatic valve can be concealed (in wall) or exposed, like a cylinder connected to two legs, each one with a hot or cold water supply pipe inside it. Concealed is a "rough" behind a wall plate. Exposed valves are housed in a chrome body. Both can be called modern look.

Once the water is temperature mixed, it goes to... wherever you choose to have it go. The first valve can be a simple diverter, or a multi port diverter sending your mixed water to any number of several places. As mentioned above.

If you want a hose, you can have one. The handshower could be in a chrome hole on the tub "deck", the top horizontal part of the tub. Then, the hose is attached behind the scenes in the hollow space around the tub, and when you lift the handshower out of the holder, the hose comes out of the tub hollow.

But, where you connect your hose-initiator node is up to you. It could come out of the top or side of the thermostatic valve thingie if it's an exposed thermostatic. If you want the hose to begin at a point far from the tub spout high up n the wall, then you need for mixed water to run a small length behind the wall tile to reach that point, so then you may be best off with a thermostatic valve concealed behind a plate on the tile. That is "in-wall".

In European web sites, you see a lot of exposed valves, and most web sites here show the in wall ones.

You could replace the term in-wall with "on-tub-deck" and everything else remains as described.

Thanks for the replies. I feel a little better AND a little more confused. I don't mean to sound ignorant. I just simply know very little about plumbing and HAVE to get this figured out as my whole house reno is stuck on this problem. I need the rough-in plumbing done so everything can proceed. And I'm my own GC. UGH.

I didn't understand that you could "mix and match" parts to get what I'm after. From looking on plumbing supply websites and seeing the fixtures in the stores, I thought you bought a package deal of the cold water and/or hot water knob and the spout together. And if there wasn't a handshower with the set, then you were out of luck. Now I see that you can buy a set of the knob/s and spout and also a separate handshower and hook them all up together somehow. Or I see that I can buy all the parts separately and piece them together. Good.

I want the handshower to be like the ones on roman tub filler sets where the hose is under the tub and just the handshower sits visible on the tub deck. I should have enough tub deck space for that. Good.

I'm confused about the fill rate. A year ago I started looking at roman tub fillers. Some of them have fill rates at 11 gpm or more. Those are the ones I have been looking at. Now I see that I don't have enough space in the room to have a big tub deck upon which to place the roman tub filler and all its parts. So I started looking at wall mounted ones to get the spout and the handles up on the wall.

Are you saying that tub fillers on a wall can't fill at the same rate as a roman tub filler? My tub is about 100 gallons so I need a filler with high gpms.

When you email them you force them to respond with an answer. For you it will be a good use of your time, instead of crawling through their web site and looking at pictures of whole sets which won't correspond to what you want.

Re-write your original post a little bit. You do that work, for me. Please.

I think one person might have commented on the flow rate, but that was without reading slowly and remembering that you mentioned tub filler so he commented on some other constraint like shower maximum flow. But, instead of turning it into a public debate about a detail, panic not, dear woman. You ask the manufacturer "if wall mounted tub faucets can fill at the same rate as roman tub fillers" and be done with it. Or, you completely disregard the comparison between roman and wall: you just say you want 8 GPM.

By searching the web you will find 8 GPM and 11 GPM and more. That too will allay your doubts and fears my dear. By posting every single question you have that comes into your head you are slowing down the whole process. Disregard any one single comment that someone might have made, and be less reactive in general. Web search using quotation marks like this

"8 GPM" tub filler

and then later with

"11 GPM " tub filler

and this will give you results that you can learn from. Ask not one single thread on one single forum to be perfect for you. Someone made a mistake and that is all it is. Do more homework before each new post.

You go back to your first post that expressed wishes, and do a little more work to write out your original post again. In the rewrite, do NOT try to be perfect or to cover every base. Just rewrite it so that readers can see more clearly how your desires have moved. Nobody can read your mind and write it out for you. Whatever you don't know yet is fine fine fine. The plumbing fixture manufacturers are very used to receiving confusing emails from confused people who don't know terms. Do not try to be better than the average bear. Just send them something, anything, whatever, and they will link you to options.

I am both offended and disheartened by your reply, Davidro. I am asking questions here to find help as does any other forum member. I apologize if I came off as panicked. I AM panicked, but I apologize if that is inappropriate. Come live with the stress I have taking care of my family, living in a temporary house, and managing this entire huge reno myself without a GC. You have no idea what I've gone through during this process.

I need a faucet. I will contact each manufacturer separately on my own now. I was hoping to get some answers here so I didn't need to take the time to do this. Thank you for the direction you provided.

send email to Moen and Delta to see what they will list out for you. Their lifetime warranty applies to everything, without needing to see a receipt. Kohler's warranty is not like that, and Kohler is sometimes expensive. Skatermom : email them too.

I called four companies. I didn't have time to wait several days for them to get back to me.

Kohler--said my set up is completely possible. Asked me about the style of faucet I wanted, and then walked me through the each piece I would need to buy in each of three faucet collections. She gave me the part numbers of each trim and each valve as well as the handheld and hose. Very helpful.

Grohe--asked if my set up could be done with Moen and the reply was one simple word. No.

Hansgrohe--told me that I should check out their new thermostatic trim with volume control and diverted as it would fill at 8gpm.

Moen--said that they had never tried a set up like I wanted before so couldn't vouch for it actually working. She gave me some part numbers and said I would have to buy a shower/tub set even though I didn't need the shower head.

You have to be very careful that the tub spout is long enough to reach into the tub. I'm debating adding a few more inches onto my tub deck instead of wall mounted. My tub is a two person tub so I don't want to mount a wall spout from the short ends of the tub where they would be easy to reach. I wanted the spout on the long back wall, but it would be hard to test the water temperature across the tub without actually getting in the tub. Hope that makes sense.

Bottom line is that I still don't know what I'm going to do. My plumber left for a 6 day job which gives me a little more time to decide.

I came over here looking for what tile you are going to do in your bathroom and found this. Since I am replying so late in the thread, I'm guessing you have figured out what you are doing by now. If not, I can tell you I did a Brizo Riveria faucet with handshower. It is NOT wall mounted though so it doesn't meet all your criteria and I don't know what the flow rate is. The other drawback, it is EXPENSIVE (or at least I thought so) but this is the ONLY one I found (2 years ago) that had one controller which was a must have for bathing little kids (no more adjusting two knobs to get the temperature correct) and a handshower (again, so wonderful for washing little kid's hair). Hope that helps. I ordered it from Nolan Plumbing supply which I believe is national.
