My bath remodel is finished!!! Lots of pictures - Cross post

I got a lot of advice on the home decorating forum & the bath forum so I posted these final pics in both places.

We finally got our bathroom remodeled!!! All that is left to do is stain the door again, fill in the nail holes & add some more decor. Thanks for all of the advice & help with this project. Even if you didn't reply to my posts, I was inspired by a lot of the posts on these forums & pictures everyone shares of their homes, so you may have helped & didn't even know it.

I am not sure where to hang the ring holder for the hand towel any idea's?

The color of the walls are actually a lot warmer color than they look in these pics. It is so nice & bright in there since we added a 4 foot skylight, love that. It is very hard to get a good picture of a room this size with my camera.

I would like to add some more color to the room like some red & any other color like green or something that will keep it looking cabinish. Maybe some wall pictures or something, anyone have any idea's how to bring a little more color to the room so it's not just neutral colors? Any pictures or wall art you know of that you think would look good in here? Advice & tips always appreciated.

I love the way everything turned out except the vanity lights don't quite light up where they should for doing your make-up. If I bend way down by the table then they show the true light bulb color on my face but if I sit normal the globe just puts off general light from the globes. I could replace the light fixtures but not the actual location of the lights now that they are hard wired in. It took way to long to get the drywall finished & I am not going to mess that up. I know I could just use a lighted make-up mirror but anyone have any other idea's that you think would look good & be better lighting there?

LOL Ya'll are funny. I got so many comments on my bad photo taking I took it off to retake them. So I'll post pics here: I suppose I should have typed between pics....what you're seeing is the master bath :P I took a close up of the glass to show how cool it is :) We had it made for us so no one has glass like it. It's super thick and while in the big pics you see inside the cabs due to use of flash, you really can't see into it (as you see in the glass only pic). It's really just another texture. The room inspiration was my collection of medievil manuscript pages. The "art" is dated between 1350 and 1700. The majority is mid 1400. I love the soft coffe stained tones you get with antique papers. The cabs might appear black, but they're actually a rich chocolate cherry, just like the croc tile. The cabinets are Omega custom. Since they do whatever you ask for, the design was whatever I wanted LOL I went with 27" deep lowers and then it has the little jut out. The cabs have pull out drawers inside for my daily routine. I also have the little pullouts for toothpaste, soap etc., as well as toe kick drawers, tip outs, blah blah...every inch of space is used LOL People always ask about the tub...you can easily get into it by stepping up on the step, sitting down backwards (bumm on deck) and swinging your legs over to drop down into the seat that is inside. We did plan on a bigger step (one that flipped out) and we planned on using grab bars, but really they're not necessary. Frankly the tub (while it calls out for nekkid adults and good wine) is most often occupied by our 3 year old. He loves having water to his neck (he's not left alone in there obviously) and the bubbles that the air jets make. Not to mention that the water is recirculated into a warmer so it never gets cold...again not that I'd know...but given his two hour splash session...I'm guessing it works for him :) Oh and it's NOT dark in the room. The shower has it's own light inside. The room is quite well lit and gets so much sunshine that I took the pictures late at night to get them without too much shine (which made people think the room is dark). We sit on the edge of a lake and have huge windows everywhere so the room is constantly light and bright. Our wall finish was done by an artist to mimic the travertine feel, but not be specific.

I didn't even know there was a Toto or Waterworks store on the westside. Grass is always greener.... I think that's one of the most powerful forces on the planet! Cabinet installed so I can show some pictures of its funkiness, and the gemisch of finishes on hardware already present. I dunno what to do now ... too much thinking as others have said. But as I've said, this decision, about faucets, has always been my very hardest and least successful. For reference, here's my sink: And here it is in situ: Kohler Alteo: It's set into a natural bamboo-fronted floating vanity above reddish-hued slate. There is a glass-fronted shower stall with chrome fixtures and a doorknob with brushed chrome (I don't like the lock but that's all that was available). I do think the faucet has to "belong" to the sink and should be oil-rubbed bronze even though there is other stuff in the room. Here's what I'm considering (thanks to you-all). Thanks for all the compliments! There is an astist strain that runs in he family. I have a sister that paints, etc, but my skills are in other areas. I seem to have a predilection for power tools. But I guess the main thing is that I am always willing to step out of the box and look for cheaper solutions. (One of the advantages for growing up extrememly poor.) I love to stroll slowly through our Menards, looking at stuff, creating a mental file box for future use. I guess my main thing is that I really never settle for just "cheap" it always has to have a "pretty" aspect to it. And don't get me wrong, I try not to be stingy in everything I do, there is a place for granite and expensive fixtures, but when it is not in the budget...... (Grin.) Answers to questions: The light - a can of silver spraypaint. The tub is by Maxx. I can't remember the name. The floor - Wood burning the floor was actually really, really fast. I think I got it done in under 2 hrs. That wood burner gets hot! Each leaf was about 4 sec of pressure. I had settled down in front of the TV thinking it was going to be a long night and I remember being finished before the movie ended. I used screen door trim for the in between lines. It was the layer upon layer of poly that took forever. A word of warning about plywood on the floor: Who knows how long it will hold together. Like Rachelen says, it is a great temporary when you know something permanent is coming in a few years. The painted window - They sell "lead strips" that are peel and stick for straight lines. :) So I put the lines in, and then filled the open areas with the paint. It is a much prettier solution than stick on contact paper for privacy. Also, I took a chance and did it right on the window. The instructions say that it should not be used on glass that has direct contact with the cold. I did that the first month we bought the house 6 years ago. It went on in November and the first winter it crinkled really strange on our coldest days and I thought it was ruined. But when it warmed up the glass expanded again and it looked normal. Alfter that winter, I guess the paint had a chance to cure against the glass and it hasn't happened since. I used the paint on our master bath when I built the pedestal. I wish you could see it at night when the LED color changing night light is on inside. Most of the furniture in the house was built by me. When we bought out house it had great bones and was very well preserved, but no one had done any work in it for about 40 years. Thanks all, Your thought are confirming many of my ideas- we have had many visitors whose first thought is to "open up" the whole first floor (ie. open the kitchen, dining and bedroom to each other) but I hesitate because 1. it is an old house and I'd like to keep some of the original plan and 2. sometimes opening up a space makes it actually seem smaller- to me the private bedroom makes the house seem bigger. The vestibule/mudroom leads to a cute side porch, overlooking the driveway but without stairs down to it. It has a closet which is great, but we currently use the space as a lego room :). So, we could do without! I also do picture French doors, but privacy and sound would be a downside. We are in need of a guest room for occasional visitors and really only have three bedrooms on the 2nd floor (the 2nd floor is basically the same floor plan as the first- one needs to walk through two bedrooms to get from the front one to the bath! That's another issue, and I'm not sure we can count on a remodel of the 2nd floor to give us the guest room we'd like). Thanks all for your thoughts- it helps to cement my feelings about this space, knowing others have similar ones!

Thanks, for the compliments! The tile is 17 1/2" x 17 1/2 " Cinnabar Cairo GL Porcelain, which was only about $3 a sq ft. The grout is grey, I chose a darker color, about the same color as the tile so it wouldn't show dirt easily but it didn't turn out very dark once I put it down. It is a little darker than the pics show but still not that dark. I am hoping that it will darken up a little over time since DH had to finish sanding the drywall after the tile was installed. I have mopped it but maybe the drywall dust is still in the grout??? I haven't sealed the grout yet maybe that will make it darken up a little also? Anyway we are very pleased over all with the way everything turned out. Terri

It really turned out great--you had vision! Towel right above the low lined laundry basket to your left facing the sink, above the chair rail.

There is a site Art dot com and I searched there in category Nature, Country, Ponds, ... you can even screen for colors red or colors green. I typed 'log cabin' as a search...you have got to try that!

That's beautiful, Terri! I'm so happy for you. You achieved just the right rustic, cottage-y combination you were describing, and the whole space feels so much lighter and airier without the storage cabinet next to the vanity. Nice job!
Regarding the vanity lighting: first, do you have the highest-wattage bulbs in the fixtures that they are rated for? If so, I would simply replace with other fixtures that accept 100 watt bulbs. You could swap the light switch for a dimmer switch, too, for even more control.

The problem with your vanity light fixtures is that they are intended to be hung at least 2-3' ABOVE the intended target to be illuminated.

Change them out to something slim and rectangular with full bulb coverage. The link shows one that is too modern for your decor, but I hope you get the general idea.

Right now you've got a 'floodlight' effect going on with the placement of your fixtures. You want a strong general illumination fixture that throws light in all directions.

I totally understand what you are saying JKOM51. Now to find something that would fit in with the room. Any idea's anyone? I know everyone said to mount my fixtures at this height, guess it really depended on the fixture you pick...Grrr Any idea's on a fixture to fit in with my room decor?

Here are some options that might work.

This would give you LOTS of light.... dual bulbs @100w each = 200w per side! In satin nickel like your other lamps.
