Can I buy shower head/handle set and not use faucet?

There are great deals on Overstock for faucets. I saw a shower head with a valve cover that I love for not that much $$$. Problem is, it comes with a tub faucet. Obviously it's for a set up where you have a shower/bath in one unit. I have a tub and a stall shower. Can I buy the whole unit and not use the faucet part? This is one of those low faucets that would fit in a tub/shower and is wall mounted. Even if I just discard the faucet the prices for the rest of the set up are really good. I have a similar question about tub fillers. I don't think I have space on my tub deck to mount a spray attachment with a tub filler. Can I buy the tub filler (there are great fillers on O. too!) and discard the spray attachment if it doesn't fit on my deck? I know it might seem wasteful but honestly the prices on O. are so good that it's still cheaper to buy this stuff and just not use it all. Oh, and no neither of the products come in the exact configurations I need, this is the only way to do it. Thanks!

The real question, I think is the valve part that you need for it (part behind the wall that the hot and cold water lines are plumbed into.

Some have very specific instructions.

I don't believe that it would be a problem to plug up the spout so all the water is permanently diverted to the shower... and similarly with the sprayer.

Usually plugging up one output shouldn't be a problem- but read the specs on the valve first... (or ask your plumber if you are using one!).

After looking FOREVER for an antique brass shower fixture with porcelain lever handles (how's that for knowing very specifically what you want?)and despairing of ever finding one I could afford, I too finally found it at Overstock.com - except that it came with a tub-filler that I didn't want/need. My plumber just permanently capped off the arm of the valve that went to the tub-filler before installing the valve in the wall. No problem. He never even blinked at the request. Apparently lots of people do that.

What brand is your shower/tub valve and faucet? It looks like Kohler. If it is Kohler, you can replace the handles with new Kohler handles. Once you decide on your lav faucet, you can use the tub spout and/or shower head from that collection - or find a similar design from another manufacturer. If your current tub spout is metal, be careful in selecting a new one because most mid ranged spouts are plastic. I like your faucets for a mid century bath - they are right in line. The knobs are still contemporary - spouts have changed. get back with your valve manufacturer so we can help you.

Thanks Amity. I actually randomly found that one when I was searching on ebay yesterday and I think thats what I will go with. I had to do a little reserach first to see how much effort it would be and was relieved to find a shower panel in the closet on the otherside of the wall.

The Kohler Coralais was probably as close to that as you could hope to get, but it's just been discontinued. You might still be able to find stock somewhere if you move fast, but it's trim for a Kohler valve. If you have a valve and just want trim, you will have to take what you can find and be happy to have found anything, or convert to a single fixture as numbersjunkie suggested.

We redid our MB with an overhead, a hand held, also a grab bar. I think the handheld is great. We use it for cleaning screen windows, the dog, sometimes my feet, etc. Although I think the ceiling overhead shower head looks glamorous , it makes washing your hair awkward. You have to step out of the water pathway to get the shampoo in your hair, vs. a wall mount you step back a few inches and you can get shampoo in while still being showered with the water.

I talked to the plumber this morning to check this out and he said it is usually not a problem. Sometimes, it is, but usually it isn't. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that it all works. In my case, I don't need to change any valves, I just need a shower head and a valve cover for the shower. If I'm lucky and I have space they might be able to use the sprayer in the bathrub, but if they can't I'll just use the tub filler faucet and handles.

I am pretty happy to hear it, I've got a 10% off coupon for Overstock. I recently ordered a chandy there that turned out to be great and I want to give them another try with the fixtures...and I found something I can afford!
