Cleaning chocolate off wool rug?

We had a dinner party and someone dropped a little bit of chocolate frosting under their chair and then must have smudged it. It's barely visible. The rug is the Karastan French Check rug, white and green wool berber. What would you recommend to spot clean it? Thanks.

Hi!

Seeing as no one has responded I'll give it a shot. I puchased a New Zealand Wool rug made by Karastan at Marshall Fields 10 years ago. I looked for years for just the right colors. I have never had to spot clean it as it is in the foyer. Fields gave me a booklet on New Zealand Wool. There is a stain removal guide in the back and depending on the type of stain there are some of the suggestions are 3 step. I then went to the Karastan site and clicked on carpet care. The stain chart which they show is the same one in my booklet on New Zealand Wool. So I assume that these methods are safe for wool. They did give a warning about Poly. There is a download for the stain removal page. My suggestion to you is to bring up the stain removal page and call them direct and let them talk you through it. They would know if they had had a problem with a certain dye running or any problems encountered by others. I didn't want to suggest what to do as I can't figure out whether to treat it first as Butter assuming the frosting was butter based and then as a Chocolate stain. For what these rugs cost these are "Lifetime" rugs. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks. I will give them a call. The ingredients were cocoa powder, milk and confectioner's sugar. No butter.

I don't recommend the Nesta Rug. It sheds much more than I would have though. We have Nesta 'fur balls' all over the house. When I first called DWR 3 months after I bought it to report this issue, they told me to 'give it time' that after a year the shedding should subside. It has been over 2 years and it has not stopped shedding. DWR is not telling me to wait for anything to subside anymore. In fact, they don't want to talk to me about it saying I've waited too long. I do not recommend this rug (or DWR for that matter) unless you want the feeling you have an Old English sheepdog in your house...

I got it at Macy's but someone here posted that it was cheaper elsewhere. I wish I could remember the thread. Mine was $99. It looks way better than a $99 rug! It's called: Momeni Voyage Serapi Navy 3'11" x 5'7" Area Rug Macy's is sold out. An image search brought it up many places, but I couldn't find the actual rug on most of those sites. I looked further at the Tidy Breeze system last night and watched two you tubes on it. I'm still not convinced though I found the complete system on Amazon in frustration free packaging for a bit over 31 with free shipping. It included everything. I would really like to get something that wouldn't track through the house. I think the Breeze system would eliminate the tracking but the one video the lady said she could smell the cat urine that was on the pellets. I would think if you removed the ones that got wet you could eliminate that smell but I'm not sure. For $31 I am thinking it may be a go. I can at least try it to see if it works.

I have a few antique large Persian rugs that I have had cleaned professionally. And one small antique Persian rug that I cleaned. I found it on top of a trash can on the street. The color was beautiful, but it was covered in some white stuff. I though it might be spilled paint. I took it home and in the light realized it was molding. I took it outside and washed the heck out of it. I used a gentle detergent and scrubbed with a broom. Them I hung it on a line and hosed it. I did this several times and let it hang outside for a few days. It is perfect now except for the edge piece that was damaged before I got it. I will have the edge repaired at some point. My long winded story is to explain that water should do no harm as long as you dry it completely.
