We installed the shower door to swing inward and outward. After showering, while fan is running we leave the door pushed in, and the transom window tilted, so that any drips go onto shower floor instead of bathroom floor. Floors are existing hard woods, so this was important to us. The only drawback the installer told us, which we were fine with, is that we won't get as tight of a seal for steam. The installer did a good job with the measuring and the seals because it stops at the curb perfectly; we'd have to continue pushing on the door to make it keep going to open outward. We almost never open it outward though; only if cleaning and want the door out of the way. We like it this way; easy reach-in to turn water on is a plus.

I did the sliding doors and really the new frameless sliding doors aren't that huge of an issue to clean. I chose the sliding door because of space issues too, plus in my other home which had a swing out door, water was always on the floor from where it dripped when the door was opened. I used to dart out of the shower to minimize the time the door could drip on the floor. I agree the frameless swing doors are more attractive, but I've heard many stories about water leaking out of those doors if the curb isn't slanted properly etc... I just decided to avoid the water on the floor and potential leak issues and trade that off with wiping the track periodically.

I had exactly the same situation as you (same size Kohler cast iron shower base in an alcove) and did not want holes drilled into the shower base. DG measured, built, and installed a sliding door (one side fixed, the other slides) without drilling into the shower base. Drilling through the tile was required to the hold the fixed wall and top rail. I paid $2025 after negotiation, yeah not cheap. I don't know if that brand is available in the US (the presenter is in Canada).

A real photo would help here. For me, at least, the video clip actually makes it harder to really see what's going on. I assume your problem is that what appears to be a pivot at lower right has broken loose from the glass door. Is that correct? One of the challenges here is to re-bond that pivot in exactly the right place for the door to close properly. You have only once chance to get it right. If I were going to try to fix this myself, I'd probably start by ordering a new pivot and some of the factory adhesive from the company that made the door. There's no adhesive in the world that will hold unless the glass and pivot inside are factory-clean. I'd mark the current hinge position carefully, remove the door from the shower, clean the glass thoroughly (somehow keeping the position mark intact, darned if I know how), and then bond the new pivot following the manufacturer's instructions carefully. I think what I'd be more inclined to do is mark the pivot position, remove the door, and take it to a good local glass shop to be repaired by someone who knows his stuff better than I do. I might even try to order a complete new door from the factory. Whatever you do, make sure you know what you're doing. As others have pointed out, that's a mighty darn big and heavy chunk of glass to have fall and break when you're standing dripping wet and buck-naked next to it.
