Need Help chosing Kitchen Appliances

We have a budget of 6K & we need a refrigerator, freestanding smooth-top range Dishwasher & Microwave oven. We've been looking at the kitchen aid brand vs. Kenmore vs. Bosch. We've also heard about the Bosch dishwashers not having a food disposal or heating element & not sure how it works. A cabinet depth refrigerator would also be nice.

Look at AJ Madison for a variety of brands and a decent search engine. Also Searsappliances. You can search and compare many brands.

Ok, So far I've put together the below list so do the appliances look ok or should I go in another direction.

Thank hidroman re: Blomberg dishwasher. Here in Canada, the Blomberg name is used and definitely marketed as Turkish. They were pricing their appliances very competitively when they entered the market a few years ago so that seems to be why their prices are affordable. Seems to be great machines so it was nice to get info from you that confirms the positives. As for the refrigerator, I'm trying to decide between a Samsung counterdepth model and a Whirlpool/KitchenAid/Jenn-Air model. The Samsungs seem to be really good fridges (despite reports of ice-machine problems) while the fit/finish/interiors of the WP/KA/JA brands seem nicer. What would you vote for or do you have any suggestions for an alternative? Now, the hardest is the slide-in range vs cooktop/oven. I prefer the cooktop/oven look but the cost will be higher. Having said that, I found a decently priced GE Profile cooktop and a nice touch-control Faber, both 30". I would need to find a relatively affordable but good quality convection wall oven. Alternatively, I would like a nice electric slide-in range with clean looking lines and a quality cooking surface, preferably without a stainless border. I'm leaning towards a KA/JA model unless someone else suggests otherwise.

I currently have a GE Profile oven that is also convection. I hate it. Why? Loud fan operates whether using convection or standard bake (very annoying) AND, it blows very hot air out into the kitchen which makes it super hot in Summer. I also have not found convention to be a desirable feature for me. So I'm shopping for a new STANDARD OVEN, built-in, that makes NO noise, NOR blows out hot air. To my disappointment and surprise, the appliance sales person tells me these are no longer available and that they ALL now have fans due to venting, and cooling the electronics. Is this accurate? I can't believe I'm stuck with no options. Any kitchen experts out there that can help me??? Thanks so much for any help!

Can someone speak to the griddles on their range/rangetop? I have been considering appliances not based on the number of burners, but the inclusion of a griddle. How are these cleaned? I am anticipating more than pancakes and tortillas. Animal proteins make quite a different greasy mess, and I want to be able to thoroughly and easily clean a griddle. I took a brief look in a modest price range and saw one that had a non-stick surface. That would never hold up in the long term with my cooking. I want a scrape-able heavy duty surface with a receptacle to collect the debris. Any thoughts?

There are hundreds of consumer reviews of LG appliances on such sites as Home Depot, Best Buy, and Lowes. You might find a few consumer reviews of Jenn-Air appliances on appliancesconnection.com and ajmadison.com. It's better to buy each appliance individually as different manufacturers excel and producing different types of appliances. Even within a brand, there can be small difference in performance among products that differ wildly in price. However, LG appliances often do well in Consumer Reports ratings.

We've also heard about the Bosch dishwashers not having a food disposal or heating element & not sure how it works. A cabinet depth refrigerator would also be nice.

We have had our Bosch built Kenmore for almost three years. We have never had any problems due to the lack of a macerator.

Bosch dishwashers have an in-line heater, instead of a ring element in the bottom, which means we don't have to worry about putting plastic containers, etc. in the bottom rack. We can put them anywhere. The dishwasher automatically heats the water to the appropriate temperature. The final rinse is hot enough to sanitize the dishes.

We are building a new house. One thing is for certain, it will have a Bosch dishwasher.

My Miele DW doesn't have a heating element or food disposal and I haven't missed either. Here's what I've read and been told :

Food Disposal - the heat & spray of the water pretty much disinigrates most food anyway. They have a trap to clean, but after 15 months, I've yet to find a morsel in it - so I think that is a pretty true statement.

Heating Element - European theory is that the steam from the hot water is hot enough to steam dry the load - don't need the wasted energy to dry, the steam will. And I have to say - my dishes come out dry everytime, except for the tupperware grooves and cup bottoms. But, those were always puddles in my old unit, too.

I wouldn't be afraid of these missing features at all!

If budget allows, be sure to check out the induction range at Sears. I love my induction cooktop! Also check out the Maytag Gemini or GE version that gives you two ovens in a smoothtop electric range....my girlfriend raves about the two oven set up.
