Hi! I am trying to find a way that I could remove beeswax candle drips from wood floors. I've been using a heat gun to melt it off but it's a long process. This is an ongoing project for me since I am a volunteer cleaning lady at our Church and our Church uses beeswax candles extensively. I realize this may be a very unusual question but just in case someone has any tips ... Thanks for your time.

Try using a dull scraper to get the majority of it off. Perhaps something made of plastic so it won't knick or scratch the floor.

One of those "pre-approved credit cards" works well....and try some mineral spirits to clean up the residue.

I have found that mineral oil and beeswax works very well....and no need to buy any counter-top/cutting board oil, just go to the local pharmacy and buy a jug of mineral oil...will only be a few $$ After a few tests I have found that I like a 3:2 ratio the best...3 ounces of oil: 2 ounces of beeswax I use a cheese grater to shave off the beeswax, then put the shaving in a double boiler with the mineral oil...must keep warm to keep it from getting hard. Once it is all mixed together and melted you can apply with a cotton cloth, on a raw piece I would do several light coats If you make extra you can store in a mason type jar and just heat up again when you need it....can also be used to recoat any wooden utensils, bowls etc

Hi Sara, thanks for your reply. The reason I don't like beeswax is the smell. I made lotion bars for everyone last year and grating the was was very um fragrant. It gave me migraines. I got the wax at sprouts. This year I got a small block of wax from a local bee keeper to make paw was for the dogs, and while it was less smelling still a bit much. I have very sensitive sense of smell and the smell of floral/honey coming from the beeswax was too much for me. What about using shea? It seems pretty dense. I tried coco butter- too fragrant. thank you :-) Angie

You could. It will provide no protection from the weather, leaving the wood rough and weathered almost immediately. You'd be better off with a penetrating oil reapplied regularly or a film-forming finish. A link to an article on outdoor finishes is attached. Whatever you do, it will require frequent maintenance. I use pieces of an old cotton t-shirt for applying oil/beeswax to my soapstone counters and maple butcher block topped prep table. I don't think you need anything finer, nor anything so absorbent as terrycloth. I wouldn't go so far as to say "slop it on," not because you can hurt anything by putting on too much (you'd just wipe the excess off) but because you don't really need that much of the mixture. Put a dab on the cloth, rub it in with grain, and see what the wood absorbs. Try it first on scrap pieces of wood and of stone, if you have them, just to get the feel. That may help you feel less daunted about starting in on your beautiful new counters.

Thank you. Great advice. I'll try that. I'll try my newly ordered steam cleaners (when they'll arrive) also ... just in case they'll work. That will be a miracle.

I wouldn't be using a steam cleaner on wood floors...likely to remove the finish as well as the wax.

OK. Actually it's a steam mop. I don't think it will work though ...

Actually most things I recall were to use an ice cube first to get the wax cold and then scrape it off followed by a bit of hot iron applied over paper towels to absorb all the wax you can.
On wooden floor, once you get the bulk of it removed whatever you clean and polish the floor with should finish it off.
