jade range info please
Comments (2)We did a buy-back for the one we'd gotten for our kitchen reno (36" AG, purchased/ordered at the end of '06, installed in early '07). It had problems from day one, and service was abyssimal at best (A&E service), the oven wasn't calibrated (despite a service tech calibrating it for us at least once), the knobs looked and felt like they been installed by a little kid (apparently a well-known problem with that range), the cooling fan (which comes on as soon as the oven warms up, and stays on 'til it's completely cool--no on/off switch, sounded like a jet engine), the sealed burner caps (both the large ones as well as the smaller ones) caused the flames to come up around the sides of our smaller sauce pans unless the flames were turned way down--so much for getting the most out of the burners' BTU's, and we'd heard and read that they were getting out of the residential range business (which concerned us with regards to future support of the range), this after we'd specifically asked about and expressed our concerns (to the distributor and our salespeople) about the ranges being discontinued. IMHO, unless things have changed with both the range itself (construction), and its continued production, it might be wise to reconsider. There have been threads detailing our and other's experience with Jade, but I can't seem to find them--they've probably scrolled off. FWIW, we're in the NY metropolitan area as well. In the few places that had it in their showrooms (when we were searching for its replacement) we were told that they would no longer be carrying them (they were trying to sell the floor models), and that Jade would no longer be making residential ranges. Whether true or not, we heard the same thing in enough places to convince us that we were doing the right thing. One positive note, wonky knobs aside, it really was one of the prettiest ranges we'd seen (it looked beautiful in our kitchen while it was here...)--it just wasn't a great range for the money (and it was considerably higher priced than the AG Wolf range we replaced it with)....See MoreImperial Residential
Comments (5)This is the first I've heard of Imperial making a residential range so I looked at their website. Interesting, but expensive especially when you look at the price of their add-ons, lower BTU than Blue Star, & no mention of an infrared broiler - in fact, it doesn't look like the oven has a broiler. Maybe, that's an option I missed. OTOH, I'm glad to see someone besides BS making an open burner stove. Here is a link that might be useful: Imperial Range...See MorePrice for 60 inch Jade range
Comments (3)Well I just pulled the trigger and ordered a Wolf all gas. It was a compromise. I preferred the sealed burners on the dual fuel, but I don't have the electricity for it, and I don't want electric ovens anyway. I already knew of some people having problems with their Jades, but I doubt all Jade appliances have suddenly stopped working. If I could buy one I still would. I just like the looks of Jade. I looked into American ranges, and contacted their distributor for our area, Alpha distributors. They have been in business for 30 years with American range, dealing with restaurant equipment, and according to the lady I spoke with on the phone, they are the residential product distributor too, but they don't want to be. They never called back, with the name of a store I could see one. So I gave up, and ordered the Wolf....See Moreour range resolution--very long
Comments (9)"ynsmom" perhaps it's just bad luck, but I'd echo "cat_mom" and avoid Jade residential at this time. It faces an uncertain future, at best, and they've split the lines, selling refrigeration/dishwashers to one company and cooktops to another owner. So far, to my knowledge (and this could be outdated info), neither has produced new Jade products and what you're looking at now is the stock still floating from the "old" Jade. There are lots of good range options out there besides Jade. I have a Bluestar that I am about 80% happy with an "cat_mom" now has a Wolf, which if I had to choose now I'd probably go with too, as it's better-known and available nationally. When shopping I was also really impressed with the GE Monogram line, which you might also want to consider. -Susan W....See Moretyguy
