Are above range microwave vents as powerful as a range hood?
Comments (2)No they're not. MWs usually have much lower CFMs (200 - 450) depending on the brand, whereas most range hoods start at 600 and go up from there. Also, MWs don't have as effective a capture area as a hood....See MoreHelp! Height of hood above range?
Comments (18)Our VAH liner is also 22.5 inches deep. However, the wood hood is actually 26 inches deep, included the dreaded (but pretty) arched wood shelf on the front. We specifically went with the VAH liner because our cabinet company (Woodharbor) built the hoods to VAH specifications and would sell them directly through their cabinet vendors as well. Because we were doing the install ourselves, DH didn't want to worry about modifying the hood on site. Our liner literally fits like a glove inside the hood. Also, I am 5'10" tall, if I were shorter, this obviously wouldn't be a problem. I also think if I were taller, I would be more likely to see the hood before I ran my temple into it and it would be less of a problem as well. Here is a picture of the liner inside the wood hood:...See MoreVent-a-Hood - height above Thermador gas range
Comments (6)The liner depth is 22.5"; but we are extending it out to be 24" from the wall to cover as much of the cooking surface as possible. The range is 25 1/8" deep to the front edge (not including the knobs and door handle). We can't go with a wider hood because of the existing upper cabinet layout - just not enough room. We have lived without a vent hood of any kind (long story - had a range with downdraft that died) for 7 years. We actually have a wooden upper cabinet over our current stove (ceramic electric range) at 28". Obviously don't want to go that low with the new hood but 36" just seems a bit too high. I think we have settled on 34-35" above the cooking surface....See MoreHeight of Vent-A-Hood above cooktop - Should I change?
Comments (11)I totally get the 24"-27" placement being too low for comfort, although at 5'2", not much hits me in the face. :) My last hood was at 24" and what I found most annoying was trying to get spaghetti out of a pot. I don't have the cooktop here, but the depth of the hood is 19" (including 3 1/2" of front controls). The front of the cooktop sits at about 22", so if I understand what I'm reading here, if I'm going to cook anything smelly I need to do it on the back burners, otherwise, I'm probably okay....See More- 15 years ago
