I was told by a repairman that liquids will leak into the machine and gum it up, especially if you use the delay feature. He recommended only powders for front loaders. As a result, when we recently had the dryer fixed, the repairman was surprised that my washer was in such great shape after 8 years. I never close the door after a load but let it dry completely before doing so. Also, every once in a while I throw a cup of white vinegar in with the load or put some in the fabric softener tray. I too was disappointed that Costco stopped selling their powder detergent. It was cheap and excellent.

The Caldrea scents are more "elaborate" (it features multiple-note scents). Some items purchased are not listed as they were given away to others cause they made all of us break out including mom and not too mention I didn't need all the things I had tried. Some of you may remember me telling you about the laundry issues I was having while taking care of my mom. I ended up going back to Charlie's and using Sears and some fab softeners depending on what was needed. She declined shortly there afeter. Her decline caused serious odor issues and Charlie's was not cutting it even with three washes, and that included using additives and chlorine bleach. The sears didn't make a dent in it either. I was gonna try some Henkel Persil, but didn't want to spend that much just to try it. Ironically, I ended up spending even more just trying to find something locally that would work, and washing a load of laundry 4 times was unacceptable. It was really that bad. I ended up buying whatever I could find on sale that I had not tried already to counteract the odor while hoping we wouldn't itch like crazy. Mind you I already had a stash of things I had tried prior. With everything I bought the only thing that ended up working to get rid of the odor in one wash was the friggin soap nuts. However,although soap nuts rocked at getting out the odors it did nothing for my kids stained clothes. Mom passed on the 7th of May, another irony. Now I have all these laundry products I have to use up. I have already donated all that others would take and I refuse to waste money. My sister said to hold on to the Gain as she would take it when she ran out, but that still leaves everything else. I've been slowly experimenting with amounts and combinations to see what I can get away with. I figured some of them out so they are slowly getting used up. One surprising developement was so far no one has had a problem with the Suavitel even though it is pretty strong smelling, it was the one fabric softener my mom could not stand, but doesn't bother the rest of us. Another of Life's irony. Go figure. I will still try to give away as much as I can until I get back to my favorite. Anyway, that is my list and my tail of laundry and Life's irony. I'll be happy when I'm back to just Charlie's again. I'm the type who likes to keep things simple.

We have a Bosch and will soon be facing the same situation. We did not want a Bosch but our kitchen has a weird layout - we needed the shallowness of the units. Today it would not be an issue. But while Consumer Reports rates it highly, we have had quite a few issues with it. The electrical panel went at 4 years (there are just the 2 of us and the dog), the soap dispenser broke (couldn't be fixed no matter what we or the repair man did - so had to get a new one) and then it started screeching like crazy - very common as well. Bosch paid for the electrical panel but not the labour - guess what - same price. Then there is the Bosch gas cooktop over the single Bosch over. Multiple problems. But we will have serious issues when they finally give up because we won't be able to replace them with North American models - as in the makes I had originally intended on buying. Then there is the Fridge. Started off with a GE Profile - it lasted 8 years and that was after a major repair. Next up came the Whirlpool - we have had it for 2 years - a disaster - rattles like crazy - and according to the manual, this is a common noise. We have had the repair man out 3 times now. Whirlpool makes the same model under the KitchenAid name but it has a deli drawer and we don't eat deli, so we saved the extra $100. We had a height problem - you will see that issue all over the Appliance forum. We could only go 65 5/8 and needed stainless steel. If we go away for a week I unplug it. I met a man while we were away who had a top GE Profile model sitting on his hardwood kitchen floor. It died while they were away and ruined his floor and the water soaked through to the basement. Now that his kids are back living in the same town as he and his wife, they check every couple of days on how things are in the house. I think that it is like everything. Some people have great experiences with certain products and others have bad experiences. Probably due to the day of the week it is made - where the parts came from etc. When we started having the Whirlpool fridge problems at 1 1/2 years, I searched this site and a member had posted the link to the Whirlpool Fridge problems site - well I could have written it. Might not be a bad idea to Google "Whirlpool Dishwasher Problems" to see what might come up. Hope all works out well for you. We use paper plates where we can to save on the metered water and the dishwasher!
