Using cut field tile to finish off glass tile backsplash (pics)

Looking for honest opinions and/or suggestions here. We're tiling our tub/shower area with 10x13 field tile and a 3" blended glass mosaic tile 59" up in shower as an accent. To coordinate, we're thinking of using the glass mosaic as our vanity backsplash (and on the left side of the vanity as well, even though there's no built in 4" splash like the back shows). We'll be using bullnosed tiles to finish off the shower ends. Would it look okay to use the same bullnose tiles (only cut into 1" strips) to give the vanity splash a finished look. Or should we just use the glass tile with not finished end liners? The field tile is porcelain, BTW.

Unfortunately, the manufacturer of the glass doesn't make a bullnosed liner to match, and with the colors of the blended mosaic, it's very difficult to match elsewhere - I've looked high and low. The colors in the field tile are ivory, beiges, greys and the glass tiles are charcoal, grey, and beige.

If you already have the bullnose, why not go ahead and cut some to size and put it on the glass tile to see what you think? You can mock it up by taping it onto some cardboard and putting it in place, so you don't even have to visualize to that extent. That's no 'vision' copout, IMO; I'm a firm believer in visual aids :)

The wall is shared with the inside wall of the Garage. We did use the thinset recommended by the manufacturer (nice to know I did ONE thing right). I used 1/16" joints because we are also using strips of mosaic tile and I wanted all the joints to match. The manufacturer also recommended sanded grout, but now with my joints so small would it do any good to switch to unsanded? It is 5am and I am actually considering ripping all the tile off. Would that work? Would I be able to reuse the tile? Ugh, what a mess.

I'm not sure how I came across this post, I think it was displayed on the right side and I clicked on it being intrigued by the tile making. I was at one time interested in working with papercrete and hypertufa. But after enlisting my brother, who wasn't as enthusiastic, and my niece, who poured cement down my laundry room sink, which original to the house had lasted 70 years, and ruining three blenders, my interest waned. True to form, if I come upon difficulty in a project, I think of it as a sign for me not to continue. And really, after all these years of trying various crafts that result in crap, I should know better. I also should have known better than to ask my brother, who always says it can't be done to any of my unique design ideas. And I should have known better than to ask my niece, who once stayed up all night before having to drive to LA for an art show, cutting mat after mat after measuring once, twice, sometimes ten times, but always coming out with the wrong size. I think we both have math dyslexia. I should video us trying anything crafty to see where we go wrong. I think both of us having ADHD might have something to do with it. Sorry for the backstory and run on sentences. So, I just wanted to see if you continued with your venture. And to say sorry for whatever tragedy occurred to cause you to have to move to Florida. Not that there is anything wrong with Florida, but it isn't Panama. Which is one of my favorite places in the western hemisphere. I hope no one is upset that I brought up a seven year old post.

Its just a spray, and you could just hit the silver ones. Do you know what type of adhesive your tile person used? In mosaic we use thinset mortar. DRY. not premixed. Premixed thinsets are mastic based, and they WILL fail. especially outdoors. Your environment also matters. If you live in a dryer frost free area, it could be find for a number of years. The reason I ask is because mirror uses a special mirror mastic. I would never use mastic for anything I want to endure However, tile people often have different opinions about that. And I know when mastic is used in my region out of doors because I often pick up the broken tiles that have fallen off to use in my work :) I have obtained some very expensive ceramic that way. I didn't buy the tile yet. Just wasn't sure if a porcelain bullnosed acting as a finished edge would work with glass 1x1s. I'm big on visualization too, but I'm not good enough in Photoshop yet to piece it together. I suppose I could just get it, try it, and do what looks best even if it potentially means wasting a few pieces of bullnose.

I think it partially depends on whether you want the backsplash to look "framed". That's essentially what the porcelain tile will do because it is visually different from the glass tile.

Bullnose tends to be more expensive than field tiles, and you will (almost definitely) have some scraps left over from doing the shower. I would consider cutting some of those scraps into the strip shape (as you would the bullnose) and taping it up as a layout to see if you like that framed look. If you do, then go ahead and cut the bullnose and tape that up. This would hopefully save you some money if it turns out you do not like the look of the frame around the glass tile.

My personal preference would be to not do the bullnose around the glass tile. To me the mosaic is very pretty and has a lovely rounded edge and I would not want anything to take away the focus from the glass tiles. However, this is just my opinion, so feel free to ignore it.

I've done what you're talking about once on a shower, but didn't like it. It was requested by the homeowner who's also a good friend of mine, because there was also another stripe down further on the wall that continued to the tub skirt, and he didn't want to have one uninterrupted, and the other stopped with a piece of bullnose from the field tile:

You can see in this first picture, where the last piece of the glass tile stripe is a cut tile:

So it would "match" the bottom stripe:
