Anyone with backsplash tiles like these here (pics)

It's amazing how some decisions are so easy to make and others are so agonizing! I need to decide on a backsplash tile and haven't found ANY completed backsplash pictures similar to what I'd like to use. Something similar to these . . .

I would make a 16"x16" grid behind the stovetop using something similar to #10 and then field tile the rest of the wall in those colors with a few of the #10 or a complementary tile thrown in randomly.

The backsplash is going to be the focal point in the room, so I thought a strong visual would be okay.

Unfortunately, I want to custom design those tiles and while I could pay $30 for each one -- not really a lot in the grand scheme -- I'm thinking I could go to one of those Pot You Paint places and do my own. I wonder if I could get a really true red from the self done one?

Does anyone have an photos of a backsplash using similar tiles?

I think it would be great: a strong, colorful, definite statement.

If you do your own, draw one you like, photocopy it, arrange them in a square to see how it looks with the pattern repeating.

Check Ebay: a lot of very similar tiles there, search for 'talavera' or 'Mexican tile'.

This one is about $24 for a 16"square:

I like this one, a bit more A&C than yours:

It comes to a bit under $17/ft, including shipping.

There are a lot of simpler designs as well.

Hi. We installed out kitchen in 2012. We still haven't chosen or decided on a backslpash - it's the painted wall. I have a creamy Egyptian marble, - don't remember the name. I like unstructured European vintage-y kitchens. Many of them don't have backsplashes either. My stainless range has a stainless backsplash directly behind it. I had picked out some mini-clear glass subway tile for the backsplash that coincidentally matches my Prescott Green paint color perfectly but what if I decide to change wall color one day? Just this week I started thinking maybe I made my backsplash tile decision three years ago which was to have none. Our marble installers tried very hard to discourage us from marble in the kitchen but I have not regretted it. All those kitchens in southern Europe can't be wrong. FYI - If you are considering glass backsplash look at a product call 3-Form it comes in an amazing variety of colors,textures and imbedded items, two good friends used it in their kitchens. http://www.3-form.com/ Do what speaks to you in your home. Oh my -- do you have to pick so theoretically? That is, can you get much of the other stuff up and running so that you can see the context a little better, set the tiles up against the counter with the floor in sight and choose *then*? ~one who's expert at delaying choices as long as possible. Speaking of which, it's pulls-time....

Hi there, I have granite with a 4" backsplash of granite and tile above. I like the look but recently changed out my granite and will be going with matte white subway tiles above the 4" backsplash. I think it looks nice and its easier to clean than just the paint. I guess its a matter of taste but I disagree that tiling above makes it look like you couldn't afford the granite to do it all. My counters are a honed jet mist and I simply didn't want that much dark gray/black on the walls. Just a little to even it out and then white above. Again, matter of taste :)

Those are awesome! I went to a paint your own pottery studio and painted a few 4" tiles to use as trivets. They're just fun to do. And yes, you can get a true red from those places, at least I was able to. On my favorite one, I actually copied a picture of a large iron piece off the internet, shrunk it down to 4x4 size, printed it and then traced it onto the tile. I used a type of glaze that leaves a raised texture to do the lines and it turned out pretty well if I do say so myself. I can dig it up and take a pic sometime tommorrow if you'd like.

Anyway, you might try it on one and see how it turns out. At the very least you'd have a cool coaster for your new kitchen!

Hi, I was thinking of using this type of tile for a project a couple of years ago. If you look on ebay, and just type in talavera tile, you'll get many sellers who have this kind of tiles. I even requested samples from some, and they sent them to me. Good luck.

Those are gorgeous tiles. During my daily perusal of kitchen porn today I remember seeing a gorgeous Mexican tile backsplash. I had to go back and hunt for it but here it is:

Thanks all. I'm glad to hear Rm that my pot you paint idea isn't too far off. I'll give it a try this weekend.

That's a beautiful backsplash Erik(a) -- but wow! The rest of the room has a ton of tile. Talk about energy.
